SO MANY NEW DETAILS WE CANT HOLD THEM ALL!
---
In this video Jdaster64 and I will be going over the new English and Japanese overview trailer for the Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door remake for Nintendo Switch.
We discuss whatever we noticed and focus on some technical stuff too!

Don't you worry, we also went over the Japanese website and some of the new footage that was released today. Things went on way longer than I expected so I decided to split this video up so I could upload at least something today.
Stay tuned for the rest of our discussion coming soon!

If Rawk Hawk gets a fucking screeching eagle as his talking voice I will shit my pants

6:35 In the Spanish version of the trailer the enemies lose HP normally so definitely it was some kind of cheat code that kept the enemies at full HP for testing purposes being used

Hooktail's weakness was always frogs in the japanese version, apparently; it was a translation change in the original, but now they've standardized it.

2:08 after multiple games of toads replacing other npcs we see a koopa replacing a toad.
  • The new short cut pipe room means no more Flavio outside of where he is supposed to be.

Rogueport Square looks GORGEOUS. Well, as gorgeous as a grimy, crime-ridden, mafia-run port town can be. Also, the light shining through the Doopliss/Piranha Plant stained-glass window gives me life.

That new room with the pipes leading to other chapters is really going to slim down the backtracking.

You know, if 3 simplifiers ends up being a thing, I'd love for 3 UNsimplifiers to be around so that you're forced to wear them in your playthrough! <3
  • @BoosterGoose
I'd love if the devs put in a hardmode badge like Bug Fables did, for those who want an extra challenge
  • I hope they kept in "The Huge, Mighty King of GUYS WHO TALK TO POSTERS!" line. :)

It is kinda neat how there doesn't seem to be any balancing changes so far, apart from the casino. So like, casual playthroughs will be nearly identical, barring the new music, animations, and probably some different superguard timings.

You didn't point it out, but the moon isn't visible on the map shown in the trailer! I'm guessing if that specific change is in the game as well it's like that to make that twist not as easy for new players to guess. The moon always being visible on the original map does kinda give it away.

Can't wait for people to say pmttydr is their favorite game

Already preordered mine. Let’s hope it sells incredibly well

i've always wondered what limitation was stopping them from having the houses unfold in color splash and tok, since in those games entering houses (or even entering part of a map where the screen doesn't scroll) shows a loading screen. sticker star made more sense considering it's an early 3ds game, but now that has me wondering if houses unfolded in the beta version
  • I don’t know if you’re covering this in a future video, but some commercials highlighted a new badge in Ms Mowz’s shop called Nostalgic Sounds, it’s one coin, requires 0 bp, and changes the music to the GameCube version
  • @BloodfelX
Honestly the trailers have abated my concerns that they wouldn't do justice to the original game - definitely looking forward to the expanded soundtrack. Sure there are changes I dislike, but also ones that I do like - as to be expected with any remake really.
  • The lighting looks incredible, I wonder how dark and murky twilight trail is going to be now

As for the attack fx badge that disturbs hooktail, it's a frog in the original japanese too. The reason its a cricket in the west is because its based on a japanese frog whos croak doesn't immediately sound like a frog to western audiences. Instead of changing the sound effect used (maybe they couldnt because of some technical limitation during localization?) they changed the text to say its a cricket instead. I suppose this is unifying the text to be closer to the original script, much like how the Vivian stuff is going with the original script too.

wait, if theyre expanding the ost and adding battle song variations per area... will they add that unused "mario version" song for the boss of chapter 4? if you know, you know lol i dont wanna spoil just in case would be great if it happens lol
