Rescuing an 87-Year-Old from a Code Enforcement Fine: A Backyard Transformation!

This cleanup mission was suggested to me by a code enforcement officer I had met while working on another overgrown yard. The homeowner, an 87-year-old lady originally from Germany, was struggling to maintain the large bushes and vines that had taken over the borders of her property. At her age, it's understandably challenging to keep up with such demanding yard work. I hope I'll be able to manage it when I reach her age!

Her son, who was also trying to help, admitted that the situation had spiraled out of control. They were managing to maintain the front yard, but the backyard was a different story. The rampant growth of the vines had rendered their mower useless.

If code enforcement received a report or spotted a violation, the homeowner would have 14 days to rectify the problem or face a hefty fine of up to $1087.50. If the issue remained unresolved, the county would send a crew to do the work and bill the homeowner. The threat of jail time was also mentioned, though I doubt they've ever had to resort to such measures. I was determined to help them avoid this predicament.

Over the course of three weeks, I dedicated a few hours each day to this project. The neighbors were thrilled to see the unruly bushes and vines being tamed. However, one neighbor expressed his preference for the privacy and natural look the bushes provided. After explaining that the vines would eventually kill the bushes, we reached a compromise. The last thing I wanted was to upset anyone.

The transformation of the backyard was a rewarding experience. Helping this lady and her son avoid a fine and reclaim their backyard was truly fulfilling. I hope you enjoyed this journey as much as I did. Please like, comment, and share this video, and don't forget to subscribe!

Wow, you deserve a medal, that was one of the 😊worst overgrown yards on Youtube. I’m so impressed by your consideration for the owner and her neighbors. Tremendous respect for you and your dedication to helping others. This is in my top 5 of all Youtube yard videos and I’ve seen hundreds. ❤️✨🙌🥰🥇🏆

I hope that the neighbors that want the privacy and the trees to remain must maintain those trees instead of expecting the old lady to.

That one neighbor needs to be cited for all the JUNK LAYING ON THE SIDE OF HIS HOUSE & THAT'S WHY HE WANTS IT COVERED UP. MEANWHILE A VIOLATION IS BEING GIVEN TO AN ALMOST 90 YEAR OLD ITS RIDICULOUS.WELL YOU ARE THE ANGEL WHO HAS GIVEN THIS LADY A CHANCE THANK YOU ❤

I am sure that lady seeing the yard before your work, felt a lot of anxiety! Then having the city giving her notice added to it.. What a lot of stress for her plus her health. A big thank you for doing that. That back yard looks so nice. What a lot of work!!! Those vines!! This gives me hope for mankind. Thank you!

Great job. Glad you could help this lady. The neighbor that didn’t want the vines cut for privacy. Should put up a fence for safety and cleaning. Wish those areas could have been cleared completely. Thanks for your hard work and kindness. Maybe someone will do pressure washing for her safety. God bless you and your family.

Scott you took on a job that no one would ever think about tackling. You are Godsend to these people who other people have passed over them. Thinking it’s not my responsibility. But you don’t see or feel that. You see a challenge to help those less fortunate than most of us. You inspire me to try to be a better person.

At a little over an hour now. I couldn't help but think of the father-son team in Houston that use machetes to make short work of the same thick volunteer trees you're dealing with here. I don't normally watch 2-hour vids, but I wouldn't miss a minute of you and your helper turning this disaster into a yard again! Great job so far! 😁

A mulching machine would come in handy for this yard. Thank you for helping this lady. May God bless you for all those you help.
