Helium’s GBB 23 Wildcard (Round 2) is a technical masterpiece, from a drumming pattern perspective it’s ridiculously good

Context for the wonky harmonies: the audio at the event was a bit strange. The room was too big, so Sinjo (the sound engineer) was caught between either having quiet foldback for the performers or having lots of feedback. As a result, most anyone whose performances relied on harmonies were severely impacted, as they couldn’t really hear themselves or their teammates. This spiralled into a lot of pitching issues with a wide range of performances, and the lack of proper sound checks and rehearsals didn’t help either. All in all, lots of mistakes were made but they were all improved in this year’s GBB!

this is in my opinion the greatest showacase in all of gbb. some of the routines are so iconic and amazing

Tony, you keep calling yourself a beatbox outsider, but I think you’ll only be one as long as you consider yourself one. Drums - timing, composition, and rhythms - are one third of the beatbox formula along with the musicality and the beatbox techniques. Please keep leaning into this space of analyzing the drums, and don’t worry about the beatbox techniques (unless you want to!). As far as I’m aware you’re the only one out here looking at it from this angle, and tbh I think you’d be a great part of a well rounded judging panel for a beatbox event as you could more objectively score the percussive aspects of beatbox without getting bogged down by the techniques used. Thanks for these reactions/analyses, your perspective is appreciated

Helium's round 2 wildcard for gbb23 is simply insane. It would be difficult for anyone to say that he isn't the best beatboxer in terms of percussion sounds, and I think his round 2 wildcard showcases his mastery of them perfectly .

Hi Tony, how are you? I recommend the GBB 2021 M.O.M showcase, for me it is the best showcase of that year. The connection, the dynamics, and that with basic sounds they did incredible things, they were crew champions that year, I highly recommend it. I also recommend that you take a look at this year's GBB, all the TAG TEAM videos have already been uploaded and they are crazy, Rogue wave and Jairo are the two teams that I recommend.
