In case you haven't figured it out yet, the dinosaur "chops" work like a cake from vanilla Minecraft. You cook it, then place it down, and eat it piece by piece, by right clicking.

The reason your chicken was gone was because it spawned as a jockey and counted as a hostile mob. So when you left, it despawned. Great video :)
