They aren’t hard. The problems come up when people either don’t yield and look before entering and the people who freeze up and stop at a yield when no one is there.

DAMMIT! How am I suppose to do a roundabout while texting? !

News flash: A lot of drivers aren’t very smart.

Okay,. I passed my drivers test almost 20 years ago in a small WA town. We had 2 roundabouts. They’re not hard to understand!!

If I'm in the wrong lane when I wanted to turn/exit, I just eat my loss and try again. Sometimes you're in a new place, trying to read signs and pay attention to navigation.. just reroute if you mess up, it's not that hard, and it's not worth whipping into another lane and hitting someone just because you dont want to take 2-3 more minutes getting back on track. The only reason i dont like round abouts is because I don't trust others to yield. Sooo many times I've actively been in the loop and someone will almost hit me as they pull into it when they should have been stopped, and I have to hit the brakes. If it wasn't for the "last clear chance" doctrine, the spiteful part of me would let them hit me, but I always see it coming because i expect it.

Almost hit a lady in Kirkland because she thinks the roundabout is a 4 Way Stop. She failed to yield for cars that are already in the roundabout.

If you get more than 3-4 tickets in 2 years you should have to retake the driving test and the written. That or some stricter testing because people shouldn't be getting through with how bad their driving is. The roads and the infrastructure can only be so good. It's time to fix the actual problem and it's the people.

Looks like pretty simple roundabout to me. They put one in near here and a dramatic difference in the ability of traffic to get through the area. People have a heard time when trying to use the phone and drive at the same time.
  • Roundabouts work, People need to get used to them. Confusion is symptom of foggy minds.

I deliver gas at that chevron near there and I can be a mess because when driving a semi you have to take two lines ,and people don't wanna give way .
  • I first drove using round abouts in a foreigh country and thought they were great. I then came back to the USA as round abouts became popular here. The big difference is the round-a- bout diameter. Foreign round abouts are MUCH bigger. Diamater makes a HUGE difference.

The real problem is Roundabouts and Freeway's are not part of "the driving test" when getting your license.

US Roundabouts are not designed properly. Designers could you a trip overseas to understand how they are supposed to work. Looking at this roundabout the problem is clear. It is inconsistent. The outer lane has different rules as does the inner lane depending on where you are in the roundabout. This creates a unique roundabout which people need to understand before driving into and one where one lane is forced to exit sometimes, and sometimes it isn't. That's a fatal flaw: all roundabouts should work the same, so that if you learn one, you learn all of them. Only in America do you design custom bespoke rules for each lane. No wonder it is causing accidents.

I would much prefer roundabouts over all of these horrible 5 and 6 way intersections. Can we do something about that please?!
  • I live in this area the rounds are not the issue the issue is the drivers do NOT know how to use them due to pure stupidity.
  • @dansanger5340
The people who are confused about roundabouts are the same people who are confused about 4-way stops, so there's not much that can be done for them.
  • @Serenmew
Anyone saying it's an education issue must not live in the area. There are literally like peanut shaped roundabouts and very weird intersections crammed right together. It's pretty much impossible to actually know what you're doing there and be a safe driver unless you go drive it at night first to practice or something.
  • While I do normally love them, I’ve seen a few poorly designed ones by some freeways lately.
  • What could really help this problem is a public service ad campaign of education. Some quick 30 sec commercials.
