I remember breaking down back in the late 70's somewhere in Utah, at least 50 miles from the nearest town. I had some lug nuts work loose on my blazer and eventually braking three studs. Some guy picked me up, drove me to the nearest city, about 50 miles, took me back to my truck and helped me get back on the road and wouldn't take a dime. It's hard to find those kind of folks now a days. Another great video and with some nice scenery.

You mention stopping at a Genesis dealership as Genesis is playing. I see what you did there...😎😏

Regarding the state of Utah, I can say with certainty that the southern portion (where there are several national parks) is, to me, the most beautiful and spectacular region of any place I've seen on the planet.

My dad drove for Greyhound in the 50s, 60s and early 70s. One of his runs was the SLC to Winnemucca leg. Back and forth. Rest stops at Wendover and Elko. No cruise control. Thanks for using the Chris Rea tune! I didn't think many people but me knew about him. I'm a big fan.

I think about the settlers going west every time I watch these videos of the highways in the west. I especially think about how they had to carve out their own road, and often times they didn't know what was coming up. Thanks for sharing.
  • Back in 2010 our family took a cross country trip to Monterey,CA to visit our brother who was in the military and it was a great road trip. I remember having an overnight stay in Evanston,Wy and then the next day as we were driving through mountains east of Salt Lake City we spotted several dead cows littered along I-80 as we continued toward Salt Lake City. We stopped for breakfast at Denny's in Salt Lake City and it was very early and the breakfast was great. After breakfast our next overnight stop was Reno, NV and the drive through the Salt Lake Desert was very interesting as the I-80 was so flat and straight as an arrow and we stopped at the Bonneville Salt Flats...very cool stuff. The drive through Nevada was much more interesting as we crossed several mountain passes along I-80 and driving through many valleys. Towns along the interstate were as least 60-100 miles apart. Freeway Jim, I really enjoyed the video👍👍👍.

WENDOVER FTW!!!!!!!!! LOL ....At 7 min in .. That land is AMAZING So beautiful. This man teched me everything I know about getting in and back outta these places. People from east coast couldn't imagine! It takes balls to go across here alone , thousands of miles from anyone you ever knew.
  • Awesome video. You always pick the best music and i always learn a thing or two. One of my dreams is driving all over the country with my Husband. 😊

Jim, there was absolutely NOTHING boring about this video!!! The "Openness" of the West never gets tiring.......the views speak for themselves! You truly put together another PERFECT video, and your ability to come up with the ideal music is a gift! It may sound cheesy, but hey, my wife agrees.....( and that's the Gospel here!). By the way.................never turned down a Filet of Fish in my life..........good call there too! Best wishes and looking forward to California!

Can't imagine living in the national speed limit era driving this stretch from SLC to Reno (or similarly San Antonio to El Paso)...

I've been watching your channel for a while, and this director's cut is a very welcome addition. I enjoy the insight, behind the scenes, etc... Well done Jim!

From Provo, UT to Emeryville, CA in the same day is a huge stretch. I’m impressed!

Jim, I say this video turned out great! music choices were spot on too! Thank you sir!!!
  • @Mrtraveler01
You did a great job keeping me engaged and entertained despite the length of the video. Definitely had the right mixture of music and tidbits to keep that drive from SLC to Wendover interesting.

I’m glad Utah took good care of you guys! I love the drive between SLC and San Francisco. I happened to be reading The Glass Castle when we did that drive 2 years ago and the author lived in some of those tiny desert towns. Thanks for making your videos, I enjoy them!

I always thought it was ironic that Utah and Nevada are neighboring states. Utah is one of only two states without gambling casinos (Hawaii is the other), and most residents shun drinking and smoking. In contrast, Nevada revolves around gambling, slot machines, drinking, and smoking.

I-80 West has to be one of my most dreaded drives, and I love driving haha

Very nice ride and was very enjoyable- this is what I like about the highways of the USA- various different types of scenery and interesting things to see! Especially as you get westward- very nice ride and I always enjoy your commentary at the end- makes it more interesting if you ask me! Looking forward to more!
