My natural pool year 4

The 4th year of having a natural pool has been a great success. Watching the ecosystem unfold as nature takes over and does it's thing is an awesome learning experience.

That is so cool. Looking at the area around the pool is nothing less than amazing, especially when you are in the pool. The plants are really taking off. I don't know anything about "Lizard Plants," but they are a great addition. I'm sure that skimmer has greatly reduced the time needed for maintenance. This is the gold standard for others to follow. Well done!

Maybe add a small solar powered fountain to move the leaves toward the skimmers. Just my 2 cents. Nice pool.

I'm sure you've considered it already, but it's worth mentioning the possibility of snails and filter feeders to clean the water and the surfaces. Some crustaceans and fish eat algae too. It may never get 100% clean, but it might be entertaining. I also really like the gravel around the edge, as it is easy to walk on while wet, without tearing up your feet either.

Barley straw and or the extract from it will help with the green water and clarity. Plus its natural and safe. Fish will eat surface algae. Awesome pool / pond with also more aquatic plants to out compete the algae it is really like having a lake in the yard.

try and add amano shrimps or neo caridina shrimps...they'll eat most of the moss and algae. They're also super hardy, i've had them nearly a year in a tank without any pumps/water circulation. I've also never done any water changes, just topping it up every now and then.

That is one beautiful pool you did a great job on that probably one of the nicest ones I’ve seen
  • That’s so cool, you could easily have some fish in there…. Every pool should be like that.

What part of Kentucky are you in? We are in South East KY and I would love to build one of these so I am curious about how they over winter and such.
  • Brader can we have the design... I'm from Indonesia. Nice to see you🎉❤ good pond so beautiful

The larger the plants around the perimeter get, the less algae you should have because the plants will use up more nutrients. For 4th year, that pool is fantastic. Now, I just need to find someone to make me one like it that doesn't charge too much as I am on social security and older than dirt. lol (some millionaire wanting to do someone a good turn). loll

this is something my wife and I want to build - is this pool in the style of David pagan butler's ponds that he builds on YouTube (he is in Britain).? - Also, I would love to see building photos or vids posted if you have any. I would really be interested in seeing much more about your natural pond project.

Hi ! Nice pool. Just built mine and i used birch instead of oak because couldn't find in my region. What wood is yours ? I hope mine resists also long because is under water and not exposed to the elements
  • @davidnguyen7281
Where did or how did you get the water to fill up the pond ?

I just learned about natural pools! I love the concept. All I'm afraid of is amoeba, it going through the nose and up to the brain. Oye! Does not sound fun, and can be deadly. Is that a real concern? Can amoeba live in these natural pools?
