Arguably the top Ten Most Hated NHL Players of all time. One of the greatest NHL agitators of all time was Claude Lemieux, who played for several teams and won four Stanley Cups. He was notorious for his dirty hits, trash talk, and ability to get under the skin of his opponents. He also scored some clutch goals in the playoffs, earning him the nickname "Pepe."
- Another legendary agitator was Esa Tikkanen, who played for the Edmonton Oilers, New York Rangers, and other teams. He was known for his relentless forechecking, physical play, and annoying chatter in a mix of Finnish and English. He was a key part of five Stanley Cup championships and often shadowed the best players on the opposing team.
- A more recent example of a great NHL agitator is Brad Marchand, who plays for the Boston Bruins. He is one of the most skilled and productive players in the league but also the most hated. He has a reputation for diving, slew-footing, licking, punching his rivals, and trash-talking on and off the ice. He has won one Stanley Cup and two World Championships with Team Canada.‪@tedtalkshockey1966‬

Ted Lindsey once got into a fight during an NHL All Star game. Most players don't even check during all star games!
  • I don't care what anyone says, Domi wiping out Samuelsson was a massive public service.
  • @drewagoosa68
"Domi received an 8 game suspension from the league and fine. As well as a handshake from every player in the league"
  • Pronger missing the cheap shot on izermam and then hurting himself was sweet justice
  • @WarioSaysSo
Scott Stevens with his dirty elbows-to-head tackles and head aiming tackles. He was part of ruining both Paul Karyia and Eric Lindros's careers.

    1. Bobby Clarke - " he would throw his mother down two flights of stairs to win a hockey game" 2. Dave Schultz - The all time bully who turtled when pounded by Larry Robinson in 1974 . 3. The Rat - Ken Linseman - enjoys fine dining. Runner up - Billy Smith with the Big Chop.

The thing about Shore that is the most interesting is his stories as Owner-GM-Coach of the Springfield Indians. Later he bought a figure skating team, and "tortured ice dancers" according to Don Cherry
  • I really enjoyed seeing the "Original Rat" referenced. I thought of him immediately the first time I saw Marchand play. I'm sure Kenny thanked God every day for Paul Holmgren.

Can’t be a top list without the original Rat….. KEN LINESMAN
  • Avery is and was a clown. Its shocking that he was paid to play for 12 years.
  • You could have added the first Great star of the Habs, Edouard "Newsy" Lalonde, a man who was hated as much by his team mates as he was opposing players... He was always willing to fight anyone, on any team, including his own. Once, while coaching (Which was his after hockey career), he had so alienated his team that they began to mouth off to him in the dressing room, he warned the players that he wasn't going to allow that sort of thing and when one of the players "Got in his face" (As we would say today), the aging Lalonde took the young man down with one mighty punch, turned to his players and asked "Anyone else?" Needless to say, that ended that!
  • Dale Hunter, Scott Stevens, and Tom Wilson. This list is incomplete and disappointing without mentioning these guys.
  • Schultz only fought guys that he could beat. Then he got shitkicked by Larry Robinson.. and I loved it...
  • @abwigim
The hate I had for Schultz wasn't half as intense as the hate I had for his teammate Bobby....
  • @johnjardim1258
I guess you don't remember what Larry Robinson did to Schultz on a Saturday afternoon game, i believe it was in1976, he brought him down to earth, Schultz was never the same after that beating.
  • You missed Bobby Clarke, the biggest cheap shot coward that ever played in the league.
  • @MrDan708
It's good that you at least mentioned Battlin' Billy Smith in passing; until Hextall came along, he was the most hated goalie in the game.
