  • Fun fact, when Hiccup goes to touch Toothless and he hesitates, it was actually an animation error, but they loved it so much that they just decided to keep it in
  • Its almost criminal imo that hardly any reactors show or react to that moment after stoick and hiccups argument where what he said hit him and he literally staggers back and u can see he instantly regrets it

The "How to Train your Dragon" trilogy is one of those rare circumstances where each movie gets exponentially greater than the last, you're in for a great ride.
  • Fun fact: The writing in the book of dragons are actual Norse Runes. The creators did their research.

So about Stoic. He was obviously ingrained at an early age that dragons where the enemy. Only to then have his wife taken from him by a dragon too. After his argument with Hiccup it explicitly shows him staggering backwards, almost immediately regretting what he had just said. But he continues forward cause he sees it as a chance to better his people. His attitude towards Hiccup in the beginning isn't so much disappointment, but fear for his future. Stating he knew what he had to do by Hiccups age, but Hiccup doesn't. I'd say Stoic has no idea how to teach cause he just figured it out himself, thus him not listening to Hiccup cause he thinks he knows better.

As much if as stoick is kind of an ass in this movie, I like that he's not one dimensional. The whole "it's what's on the inside he cant stand" thing is funny, but I think means that stoick is disappointed in him not because of his lack of strength but because he puts himself and others in danger like he did in the beginning of the movie (which isn't entirely Hiccups fault either, he just desperately wanted to be useful). But one of my favourite things in this movies is when he tells him "you're not my son" be looks like he regrets it immediately after stepping outside. I think they're also more alike than it seems, they're both stubborn and good leaders
  • To be fair on Stoick, he and the entire tribe had pretty much been taught and dedicated his life to what was considered common knowledge that ‘Dragons are the enemy’ that had been going on for centuries. Great reaction! Hope to see more of the trilogy (no pressure though. You choose that, not us).

Astrid's anger is understandable. She works hard be as good as she is, and Hiccup goes from a liability to top the class inexplicably.

This trilogy instantly gained a spot right next to my other top favorites like matrix, lotr, and john wick, a total modern classic and must have imo.
  • This film, heck, the entire trilogy, is a beautiful cinematic masterpiece! No ifs, and, or buts.
  • HTTYD is one of those animation that makes you cry out of sheer epicness alone, the animation, the story, and most of all the soundtrack, they're all on point. A story of someone riding a dragon while fighting is never this epic.

Also, Hiccup is, like, the spitting image of rare characteristics that a person can have. He has green eyes, he's left handed, he's a runt, and in the books he has red hair (which red hair and green eyes is I think the second most rare combination of hair and eye color), and at least in the books he was born on February 29th, though there is no mention of if this is or isn't true in the movies. I would very much like to know the mathematical odds of someone like Hiccup actually existing and having all of these traits

Hiccup and Toothless' first flight is one of my favorite scenes in all of cinema.
  • @Beeba10
Fun fact: Toothless "drew" Hiccup! It's just very . . . abstract, lol. But if you looks carefully, you can see his eyes, nose, and mouth (he's kind of making an 😮 face)
  • "Why do animated films always hit me in the feels?" Alyska, my friend, just you wait!
  • This movie is a masterclass in symmetrical storytelling. When Hiccup finds Toothless in the woods, he recognizes the fear in the dragon's eyes. He decides to free the dragon, and in return the dragon doesn't kill him. Yet later, Gobber says a dragon always goes for the kill. Hiccup, thinking out loud, asks the question "so why didn't you?" Then near the end, Astrid says almost the same exact thing: "The rest of us would've killed that dragon. So why didn't you?" Toothless and Hiccup recognized a kindred spirit in each other. They're perfect mirrors of each other.
  • Hmmm… +Saving your home and tribe +Defeating an evil Dragon the size of a mountain +Ending a 300 year long war +Being hailed as a hero by everyone you’ve ever known +Finally getting the approval of your stubborn father +Getting the girl +Keeping literal flying fire breathing Dragons as pets +Being able to ride on said Dragons backs and fly everyday -All of that is at the cost of a leg Hmmm… Worth it! Double worth it!!

You should definitely watch the tv series as well. It's like clone wars to the prequels. Like seriously so much character development, emotional moments, new interesting characters, hiccup and Astrid relationship develops mostly there and the tv series has the best villian of the series.
  • The lightning, everything in this triology just perfect You can see that everyone who works in DreamWorks love their jobs

27:41 One of my favorite Stoic moments in the movie is immediately after the "You aren't my son" moment. After he steps out and slams the door, he staggers for a moment as he realizes what he just said and for a moment, you can see the utter despair in his face.
