If you’re broke, keep your head up. I know it’s tough to face this situation in life, especially when you still have dreams you’re trying to pursue and goals you want to accomplish. When the bank account reflects hopelessness, that’s a difficult place to be. I’ve certainly been there.

There's a way out, though. Here are 5 steps to take when you’re broke:

1. Don’t Lie.
2. Take immediate action.
3. Ask for Help.
4. Save 10% to 20% now.
5. Retool.

  • I PRAY EVERYONE GOING THROUGH THE STRUGGLES OF BEING BROKE ONE DAY HAS FINANCIAL STABILITY AND HAPPINESS

No tv, no going out, sold everything to pay bills, doing art for money but no local buyers, use free time to learn to self publish or paint, advertise for weekend work, learning new skills at my job, and trying to get a 2nd job to catch up. Not many options left, but to be happy and grateful I am not back on the street.

I love the way you tell it like it is, but with empathy, and a genuineness that is warming yet energizing at the same time. <3
  • Being vulnerable is tough, and asking for help can be one of the most challenging things we have to do in our lives. Our ego can be our ultimate destruction.
  • I recently received a settlement from an accident, the lawyers, friends, and family kept telling me to get a passport and go on vacation. Instead, I took the money and paid off all my debts except my car. But I did increase the amount of payment so I will pay the car off a year early. Believe me, it was painful, but I only have my cell phone bill, cable, and the car. Thanks for confirming what I did! I felt terrible at the time, I thought I was wrong!
  • Just discovered your channel through a voice over friend of mine... WOW WOW WOW. Thanks for being here, it's exactly what I've been looking for. I need that little kick in the butt some days, and injection of energy on other days. As a full-time professional voice over artist and YouTube creator I don't need a shot of 5-Hour Energy... I need a shot of 5-HOUR MOTIVATION! Unfortunately, they've not invented that yet... so I'll be relying on your YouTube videos! God bless you, Brendon!

Wow! This video, I really felt like Brendon was sitting in front of me and having a friendly conversation. What I miss the most in this moments, is having someone who I could just confess my reality and the person don't judge, or is pitty, or think's I want their money. Someone just to share.
  • @MissRecess
I watched this and then had my biggest sale of the year the next day, it's great to remember the mindset to not fall back into a sad hole :)
  • @MrClubHavanna
kinda disagree at the end: "cut all leisure time". Without breaks you stress yourself needlessly and cannot think clearly. Of course you shoudn't netflix all day, but the right amount of free time is beneficially
  • @ColoredMud
Thrift stores are awesome, I don't care if I ever become rich, I will always buy at thrift stores.
  • @girlfriendsunite
I’m only 2 minutes into the video and already love the message you are giving Brandon. I was not expecting the first point to be Do not Lie. It completely stopped me in my tracks. This video is different and is what I’ve been searching for. Thank you and praying for my financial success🎉😊
  • This is phenomenal and much needed especially around 16 minute mark I'm taking my power back... Thanks for the much needed no nonsense motivation!
  • @lindsyfish6704
I disagree with Mr. Burchard's method in this instance. I can see this working very well for someone who has those extras to be able to trim off, or has been in money in the recent past, but isn't now. A lot of us don't have those extras to trim off. We've already done so. We're in the cheapest apartments we can find, we budget to within an inch of our lives, we sell our cars, we do everything we can to make the rent and it's still not enough. "Cutting the extras" won't help someone in that situation. There are no extras to cut. I also disagree that giving up hobbies for "retooling" is necessary. Keeping hobbies is a very necessary part of maintaining mental health ESPECIALLY when you're miserable and broke! It can also be a useful supplementary income, depending on what the hobby is. When it comes to "retooling", in my area people who go to bookstores and grab a glass of water and read a book get kicked out. Libraries are better. Online learning forums like Udemy, Khan Academy, MIT Open Courseware, Coursera, etc. are also available at no cost, and don't require getting kicked out of the bookstore.
  • @CrisisRescue
Love you, Brendon. This needs a Part 2. Most people who went through "broke" already know what you mentioned here. This helps the person "going broke" - - a Part 2 for people with PTSD who were broke and now are starting to get on their feet, to trust the 'coming back process ' will help many. A couple of us were just brainstorming on this type of crisis training this morning. Thanks.

This was one of the most touching things I've heard today, I'm going through A LOT of personal issues that revolve around past decisions, past money decisions, past life decisions.... etc. The way you speak makes me want to believe in myself, so THANK YOU!
