Papaver Somniferum Blooming Time-Lapse

Poppies are beautiful. But I suspect these ones were stunted because of my hard, clay soil. I dug a cylindrical space six feet in diameter and about 15 inches deep into my native soil and amended it. There was a clear difference between this year's and last year's blooms. (Last year's blooms were the size of my thumb). But it appears that something was still wrong with my soil since the roots only went a few inches deep. Also, it's hot where I live, too hot for poppies to be comfortable. Leaves started burning before any buds appeared.

I really, REALLY want to redo this video the way I originally intended it, showing the germination, young plants, and then blooms of multiple poppies at once. But for now, I hope you enjoyed this video.

The incredible song used is titled, "resurrect (prod. cocótvç)" by kyræhle

    P. somniferum is one of mother nature's most stunning, versatile and beautiful plants. I love the way they hybridise and produce myriad awesome new flower types and colours, I love the enjoyment of the multiple bees visiting the blooms in the early morning. I love when a good strain is correctly planted it will easily reach chest height at bloom time. I love the way farmers in Tasmania selected plants for maximum alkaloid content, then altered them to produce thebaine instead of other alkaloids. I love the taste of a traditional, sweet poppy seed strudel from my local cake shop...
  • There is nothing like this creature in the whole world, powerfully narcotic, powerfully changing the way we feel pain, the cause of wars and claims countless lives, but yet so much breath taking beauty.. all a cause for reverence

WOW the first night scenes where the plant was moving and growing and dancing, were the best. Loved the whole mood, with the groovy music. Thanks so much for posting this. The poppies looked majestic and mystical as they grew at night. So still once they had produced their seed.

The mechanism of how the seed pod opens is so neat!

I started growing some poppies for the first time ever, and my two big plants both have a sizeable bud, it’s truly a beautiful sight
