Team USA suffered two losses in the recent FIBA World Cup…and critics have been quick to point out “roster continuity” and “size”. How accurate is this? What else might be to blame?

What trends do we find internationally that we might be able to learn from? How do these trends translate to the NBA, and other levels of basketball, such as the EuroLeague?

In this video, we examine European vs. American basketball, and why (despite massive talent and valuation disparities) the United States might be in trouble for the upcoming Olympics and moving forward.

Keep in mind…the world was without many of their top players.

channel should have 500k subs at least, good presentation, unique perspectives, just the right amount of humor
  • @Jonteponte71
It was amazing to me to first watch extremly athletic American players consistently just standing still and ballwatch on defensive rebound after defensive rebound. And then hear respected NBA analysts explain it with "lack of size". Thanks for validating what I saw with my own, unqualified eyes. You have a sub!

The lack of iq and actual team basketball in the nba is crazy. Most people don’t see this. Amazing video. Makes me feel way more sane.

To sum up the problem with American basketball players today: “Teamwork is not a preference; it's a requirement.”- John Wooden
  • @Carlos.PerlaRE
Basketball is similar to another sport Soccer. Europeans value tactics. American sports value the individual.

Got into basketball last year watching the Nuggets. I couldn’t believe how different their play style was - focussing on a passing game that goes through Jokic - and how effective it was.

Man. The writing, editing, presentation, balance of jokes/seriousness, and analysis in these vids is top notch.

Happens in many sports. A team is or believes it is the best in the world, discovers it's no longer true, then responds by doubling down on how they used to play the game instead of moving on.

I think so much of this stuff, specifically the ball reversals/cutting, explain why Jokic and the Nuggets have been so successful. Their entire offense is based around an unselfish 7 footer that is one of the best passers we've seen
  • @leandronc
These passes are even more effective in national team basketball because teams are less organized to make the necessary quick and coordinated adjustments. Awesome analysis.

I have little to zero interest in basketball but the way you told the story was fantastic. Couldn't believe how few subscribers you have compared with the production value!

I think most US basketball culture is concerned with how they look doing something and individual success rather than actual team success. Look at how NBA players shoot free throws. Players who struggle with the traditional method could often times raise their percentages by going underhand or single hand but "it looks weird" and "isn't cool". That to me is pathetic and shows a mental fragility.

15:07 refreshing to see that the European soccer players did so well in basketball vs the nba guys

This Channel is a breath of fresh air, not just compared to other basketball oriented channels, but this kind of quality is rare on YouTube in general.

This is actually the most interesting channel on youtube by far. Literally awesome, great, incredible, outstanding job man.
  • So glad you stumbled into my feed, worth the watch! Notes on for you, great analysis and delivery.
  • I can't properly articulate how much this video satisfies my interests in sports and science - 12/10 Video - Continue this great work! *Just one small hint, the Europa League logo shown at 14:54 is actually for a football (soccer) tournament with the same name, not the basketball europa league
  • This is fire. Gotta love when teams used to ask if we were the “JV Team” and we’d run them out of the gym. Great work, Mike!!
