Nomura: Remember that KH2 Final Boss fight with Sora and Riku? Man this was such a highlight for me and that fact we got to use a synergy with Zack is part of it.

Just a reminder that anyone that paid attention to the story realizes these two are still in the dark about one another for the most part. Cloud remembers Zack, but not that he actually died in his world, and his memory of his actual past is still fucked up. Zack is still largely confused about why Cloud is this sudden badass that can use a Buster Sword. WE know. They don't. Sephiroth is the only one in this equation with any context.

It would have been funny if Zack comments the condition of the buster sword and be like “wow, you sure did gave it wear and tear. That’s a real waste.. Angeal is gonna kill you alright”

So basically, due to whispers' interference, Zach ended up surviving the fight in which he was supposed to die. This event created an alternate timeline where Zach, after surviving, helps Cloud to reach Midgar. Subsequently, he proceeds to rescue Aerith. However, inconsistencies arise because when Biggs meets Zach, he tells him that Cloud has been doing merch stuff all this time. This scenario shouldn't be possible in Zach's timeline since Cloud was supposed to be with him the entire time. This confusion extends to Aerith and Cloud hanging out, even though Cloud should not have met Aerith in Zach's timeline. This suggests that Zach is in Cloud's timeline, where he was meant to be dead, and now he is aiding Cloud in the fight against Sephiroth. The mention by Sephiroth, "as worlds unite, so do they part," indicates awareness of the creation of two worlds. Notably, there are two Sephiroth heads, raising more questions. Zach's statement, "as worlds unite, so do they part, but who's to say they can't unite again," hints at the merging of timelines or the potential destruction of one timeline as then there would be 2 clouds and aeriths.

Zack and cloud foghting sephiroth was as hype as miles and peter giving venom a beat down in the air.
