  • Y'all have no idea how tempting it was to post a screenshot of the "are you sure you want to permanently delete this file" dialog :3c
  • "And then... she deleted it." That had me so scared LMFAOO
  • Another fact about Alpha 1.1.1: This was the first and only update to include Notch's own experimental calm4.ogg music file. It was removed from the game download upon release of Alpha 1.1.2, however those who had already downloaded Alpha 1.1.1 would still hear calm4.ogg being played, since the update didn't remove it for players that already had it. This is quite the monumental discovery indeed. Thank you for the detailed and informative video!
  • @Docroke.
the guy who found it earned an "Archievement"
  • @FitMC
I appreciate the length of this video
  • Absolutely fascinating to think that Luna was probably the only person in the world with that specific copy with those specific bytes of code that nobody else had. That's probably an exaggeration, but it's still incredibly lucky to find someone that has that specific version for the time it was up, especially considering people's hard drives have died or people have deleted it it in the time it took.
  • if this video made you interested in getting better at backing up your stuff, here's an easy rule to follow: the 3-2-1 rule. you should have 3 copies of anything you want to save on at least 2 different types of media (think hdd versus ssd) and one backup should be in a separate location (in case the worst case scenario happens and your house burns or floods or something). If you do this and keep your backups up to date you're much less likely to lose important files than the average person.

I used to be a fan, i now am the whole air conditioner unit

"And then, she deleted it" gave me a heart attack, glad it was found! Goes to show how a random tweet from 11 years ago can be so beneficial to the archival community
  • 12:01 That nearly got me! 😂 Imagine if LunaSorcery actually deleted it right in front of the
  • @Aviertje
Man, as nice as a video as this was, I feel you missed out on the best way to wrap it up. Decompiling alpha v1.1.1 and comparing it to alpha v1.1.2, and then comparing the nature of the bug that made Notch push out the update. I mean, bugs are meant to stick around and be hard to extinguish, so I feel the world deserves a post-mortem of the bug that became a part of legend.
  • Minecraft is like never finished, we are still discovering more and more things even though the game is like over 10 years old already.
  • Incredible story, I wonder when EVERYONE is gonna understand the importance of archiving software just as they preserver historic remains in real life.
  • The craziest thing about this is the fact Luna still had access to her 10 year old twitter account and actively still used it
  • @ecave3435
"She deleted it" It scared me to the point that... My heart jumped
  • It's crazy how a single tweet can save a nostalgic Minecraft version that the whole team was trying to find
  • That was actually incredible, not just the whole story/build-up to the big reveal itself, but that moment you all just stood around in Multiplayer on Alpha 1.1.1 with Luna herself right there, none of that would've been possible without her discovery!🤯👍👏
  • This is exactly why i want to be able to go back in time. To preserve lost media or to observe and document lost events to history and get it on tape if possible. I want to be an observer of the past, not one to actively try and change it.
