I'm only six minutes in and this has made more sense than any oil ratio video I've ever seen. Thanks for this.
  • Been doing this racing/ riding for 50 years and haven’t listened to anyone explain this in simpler terms ever. Helping others to keep the costs down when a lot don’t want to listen is very kind Thank you 🙏
  • Great video man, thanks for the clear explanation! It makes sense about the excess oil in the crank. I switched to 20% castor oil and have to go up 1 or 2 jet sizes to keep my current temps. (Fully built Air cooled, 2stroke scooters).
  • Best information / explanation I’ve seen on YouTube Solid knowledge Thanks

Excellent points there and very true. I bought a 2002 rm125. It ran great but the power band just seemed weak. I do not know what kind of oil the previous owner used..but I think klotz btw it smelled. Anyway, I played with adjusting the power valves, jetting, etc. Nothing helped. Finally, I turned my attention to the exhaust. The carbon was so thick in the expansion chamber that my pinky wouldn't fit in it. I burnt the pipe out and removed all the leftover carbon. Now, the bike stands up through the gears like it should. Btw....I owe a shout-out to the guys on thumper talk for helping me figure it out. I have always run klotz super techniplate and still do. Because of your explanation I may switch to a synthetic like honda hp2.

Thanks for explaining why there was a huge blue cloud when I’d take off in the morning when riding the F7 (Kawasaki)… It was oil injection, and I was running “Torco T2 injection” oil…
  • pure castor oil and ATF 50/50 @ 25:1 in mx bikes and chainsaws for 30 years- never a problem
  • So much good info in this video. I’ve been riding 2 strokes since the early 90s and figured I knew all I needed to know about premix and jetting. Much of what you covered I didn’t know at all. In fact, I have always ran 40:1 thinking it was the optimal amount for us semi-fast guys. Now I know otherwise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and experience.
  • I always think of mix ratios like this: oil is cheap, engines are not. I’d much rather have a bit of smoke than a dead engine.

Ive been out of dirt bike riding for quite a while (late 1970s) and finally coming back. No competition, just trail riding, medium speeds with the occasional full throttle blast. I have an MK5 (1971-1972), 125 Bultaco pursang and a 1979 Husky 250cr with a 390cr engine in it while the original engine gets reassembled. Your vids have helped bring me back up to speed with jetting and premix. Way back when, I was a fan of Golden Spectro and have begun my dirt adventures with a fresh bottle. You have certainly given me much to think about! Thanks!

  • @MrKarl-tc6fr
I use 30:1 on my yz 250 for hard enduro/technical trails. smokes like a steamboat but never had any problem with the plugs or engine.
  • Really enjoyed your video and by the way that’s a damn good looking dog you have couldn’t tell exactly what breed but beautiful dog
  • @sodiumvapor13
really clear and straightforward explanation. Subbed! Too many channels with people yammering on and on without saying anything.
  • @smcsumo

  • @Mxrider_194
