  • Metroid is so underrated I'm glad people are giving it so much love.
  • @HaasSpitta
The fact that Metroid Prime 1 was released in 2002 just baffles me, it still plays soo well in 2023! My favorite game of all time
  • Prime Echoes was fun to play, surprisingly challenging compared to the original and much darker. It shouldn't be slept on.
  • @agente9988
Metroid fusion will always be my favourite mainly because of the scary moments such as SA-X

Super Metroid isn’t just the definitive Metroid game, it’s likely the most refined side-scrolling platformer ever made. Easy to access, difficult to familiarize, and even more difficult to master, it contains layers upon layers of nuance that game designers are still trying to approximate nearly 30 years later. Limited only by the technology of the time in which it was made, Super Metroid is about as close to a perfect game as you can get. I’m glad that’s still recognized.

Picking the top 3 is fairly easy. The hard part is putting them in order from 1-3 - there's so much room for debate. They are all incredible games.

Prime 2 is at the top of my list. It took everything from prime 1 and added onto it. It also still holds up graphically, unlike the older gen games. I understand Metroid started as a 2d game, but the 3d Prime games are a near masterpiece

I love the fact that I got into this series already as an adult, so there's no nostalgia attached when I say that the Metroid series is one of the best franchises to ever come out. I tried playing Super Metroid as a kid and it didn't land with me, I was really confused all the time, so I dropped it and never played another game in the franchise. Then, fast forward to, I don't know, 15 years later and as I was watching The Completionist's video on Super Metroid, I got the urge to try the game again just because of how passionate he was when talking about it. And then it clicked and I instantly enjoyed the game. Not only that, but I got on such a roll that after beating it I played Zero Mission, Fusion, Samus Returns (and the unnoficcial AM2R) and Metroid Prime, all back to back! I went from only knowing Samus from the original Smash on the N64 to becoming a huge fan of the franchise in less than a year, such is the power of this franchise!

My Personal Top 5 list 1. Metroid Fusion 2. Metroid Dread 3. Super Metroid 4. Metroid Prime 2 5. Metroid Prime It’s insanely hard to rank a franchise that consists 80% of insanely well done games.
  • @RogerWazup007
I would've switched Samus Returns with Zero Mission, but it's incredible how high the bar is in this series where almost every mainline game is really good.
  • I liked Fusion more than Super. Yes, it's a bit less exploration, more direction. But not a single section was boring (like Maridia in Super). Also controls are refined to perfection in Fusion.
  • My personal List from the games I’ve played: 10 Metroid: has anyone that I played this game in the past 20 years really enjoyed it? 9 Other M: A decent action game that makes a lot of stupid story decisions. 8 Zero Mission: why do some people like this game so much? It’s 10x better than the original and is an amazing remake but as a Metroid game it’s just so average 7 Samus Returns: 95% of the hate this game gets has nothing to do with the actual game. A great stepping stone for Dread and is very fun to play 6 Super Metroid: I’m sorry if this placement physically hurts you and I acknowledge that Super Metroid is a feat of level design genius but it’s just not that much fun and unintuitive 5 Corruption: Even the prime games at their worst are still amazing. The motion controls are tacky but the bosses and levels are fantastic 4 Fusion: weak level design and exploration is made up for by being atmospheric, hard, and very fun to play in an arcadey sort of way 3 Echoes: I’m convinced you have to play this game 2-3 times before the frustration goes away and you see it for the most bold and interesting game in the series 2 Dread: it’s just peak 2D Metroid and is nearly flawless 1 Prime: it’s perfect. Just go play the remaster right now
  • @ExtremeAce
I consider Prime 2 to be better than 1. It's more challenging, the world is more interconnected, the dark atmosphere is terrifying and feels like the best atmosphere a Metroid game has ever provided and the music is impeccable. The combat is also way better with much more interesting puzzle solving. Really underrated gem of a game
  • I looooooooooove the Metroid series!!! Personally, I rather like Prime 2 Echoes and Prime 3 Corruption—they are, IMO, quite underrated! And—again IMO—the things that make Other M different from the other Metroid games is what makes it neat! BTW, I hope that the other two Prime games get the Switch remaster treatment—wouldn’t it be awesome to have access to the entire trilogy on Switch? Also, I really want to see Zero Mission in the GBA lineup for NSO+EP!
  • Ah the original metroid, quite the shock when you had beaten the game and it was revealed you had played as Jennifer Lawrence the whole time.
  • Poor Other M... I love this game so much! Even though I agree that the story is not one of the best, and that it's really annoying to wait for Addam to allow the usage of abilities, I simply adore the gameplay! That game plays fast, it's filled with action pieces and badass finishers.
  • I’m one of the weirdos who thought the Prime series got better as it went along, so Corruption was my personal favorite. But I definitely agree with Dread and Super being so high on the list.
  • I was from a different generation, Prime hunters was my Goldeneye. My friends and I would play that for hours back in the day 😢
