Impact the World - Paria Hassouri

Published 2020-09-28
Our special guest is Paria Hassouri, MD, a pediatrician, mother of three, transgender rights activist, and the author of Found in Transition; A Mother's Evolution During Her Child's Gender Change. A gifted writer, she is courageous and honest in her account of her feelings of denial and anger to not just acceptance but embracing her daughter's transition. Despite the fear of maybe 'getting some things wrong,' she was moved to share the truth of their story after hearing other families going through the same experience share theirs. Her essays have been published in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, Huffington Post, and Women’s Running Magazine.

In this episode, Lee and Paria discuss how her daughter's journey led Paria to question her own identity as a mother and validity as a pediatrician, which brought plenty of opportunities for reflection and growth. Paria takes us back to Thanksgiving a few years ago, where she finds herself desperately praying and negotiating with the universe as she irons a dress her fourteen-year-old 'then' son, who wants to wear the dress to family dinner. One of the many beautiful take-aways from this honest and important conversation is how Paria was able to prescribe a new story and how the heart and mind is capable of expanding in ways you never thought possible.

Beautiful ❣️ I wondered while listening what's the souls perspective? Instead of several life's experiences with both genders to experience that change in one life. And the beauty of that.

As a middle aged trans-woman, I find this video still relevant in 2024. It would be interesting to know what The Zs have to say on this topic.

There is nothing wrong with changing the physical body to match the SPIRIT!Our body is just our car but our SPIRIT is who we really are.

As long as they are not performing surgeries before adulthood. That's my only concern with this issue in certain places right now. No gender blockers etc. should be legal for minors IMO. We can nurture their soul while allowing them to develop naturally.

We can look at the old name like Jacob and the New name like Israel only on the physical plane rather than the SPIRITUAL!
