An ex-Confederate Army officer, John Parrish (Glenn Ford, 3:10 to Yuma, 1957), plans to sell up to nearby Anchor Ranch and move east with his fiancée, but the low price offered by Anchor's crippled owner, Lee Wilkenson (Edward G. Robinson, Mackenna's Gold), and the outfit's bullyboy tactics make him think again. When one of his ranch hands is murdered, he decides to stay and fight, utilizing his war experience. Meanwhile, all is not well at Anchor Ranch where the owner's wife, Martha (Barbara Stanwyck, T.V.'s "The Big Valley), has been carrying on for years with her husband's brother who, in turn, keeps a local Mexican sweetie in town.

I am 74, I grew up on westerns, and I loved every second of this one.
  • @fngrusty42
Ye Haw, dang sad at 70 years old this is still one of the best westerns made. What an actor.

Glenn Ford was an actual quick draw shooter: Ford was billed as “the fastest gun in Hollywood” – able to draw and fire in 0.4 seconds – even faster than James Arness (“Gunsmoke”) and John Wayne. Glenn Ford was also an excellent horseman and a combat veteran of WW2.

Well, I reckon that would be one of the most well plotted, acted, and smoothly flowing westerns I've ever watched. What a great story with a quality cast and fantastic sets and scenery. Just wonderful.

Glenn Ford is an ex-Union cavalry officer. Two references in the movie; one when the doctor is examining him "You're luck that Confederate bullet went clean through you". The second, when Purdue's son asked if he served with General Kirkpatrick (Union general) in Georgia. One of Glenn Ford best westerns.

I can't the number of times I have watched this movie, love Glenn Ford. I think "No Name On The Bullet is also a good one to watch. Thanks for uploading this great movie!
  • What a film!!! Thoroughly enjoyable, highly dramatic, wonderful scenery, sets, costumes and the cast were magnificent!
  • Surprised to come across this movie. I was watching this movie 5 years ago. On cable. A thunderstorm cut the electricity in the middle of the show… could never find the movie again. Until today…

THAT was a great, great, film! Never even heard of it before! Love the title. Glenn Ford is a wicked star, and Edward G? C'mon! Brian Keith? Barbara Syanwyck? Please! But the supporting cast is absolutely fantastic! Bud's Dad was an absolute gem as were Parrish's men. And the ambush was perfect in suspense and planning. Go back and rewatch Glenn Ford's facial expressions as he takes one last look at his ranch house before joining his men. So subtle. Regret, acceptance, gleeful anticipation of a success. Perfect!
  • War hero, two time world champion fast draw, Glenn Ford great actor real cowboy.

Loved Glen Ford. Great movies. Good looking
  • Gosh! I wonder what kind of 1950’s cinematic format this is? The picture is SO wide! I love it!
  • Glenn Ford wore the same hat in all his western movies. When he retired he thought he’d like to have the hat for a keepsake. He went to the studio property room to get it but somebody had stolen it.
  • I can't get tired watching this movie. I have watched it, maybe, ten times.
  • This is a wonderful movie . It reminds me of the Movie - Duel in the Sun staring Gregory Peck. Only difference is the cast . Thanks for sharing this movie
