Walt Disney Animation Studios’ “Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family, the Madrigals, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia, in a magical house, in a vibrant town, in a wondrous, charmed place called an Encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift from super strength to the power to heal—every child except one, Mirabel (voice of Stephanie Beatriz). But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger, Mirabel decides that she, the only ordinary Madrigal, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope.

I love how the visuals of the entire song have her putting herself between Mirabel and the dangers. It emphasizes the point of the song, but it's also just really sweet.
  • I love the animators for making a strong and “buff” female character while also making her graceful and vulnerable. I think a lot more people can identify with her character

I love how Mirabel looks at Luisa at 2:27. There’s no fear even though they’re floating in mid air, all she sees is safety and love in her sister ❤️

When my sisters and I went to watch this movie in cinema, my younger sister (she's the middle sister) and I cried. We have a 6 year difference between us, but when I moved out, she learned the responsibilities I had because they were dumped onto her. We cried, understanding just how it feels to have to be the stronger person in the house. When we were younger, my parents fought a lot and I had to be the one to comfort and look after them, at a very young age. We see ourselves in Louisa and, we felt so seen in this song

Has anyone else noticed how even as much as she struggles to carry everything, she still manages to carry it, EXCEPT her door? I feel like that's symbolism as how her gift is the heaviest burden to her. (This is when she says "a light wind blows")
  • I mean are you even alive if you are an older sister and NOT feeling this song in any part of your being? MASTERPIECE 🙌🏼
  • 'Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and see if she can handle every family burden'. I felt that and every big sister has been there.
  • "give it to your sister, it doesnt hurt, and see if she can handle every family burden. watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks" damn those lyrics hit hard man. you can literally see her tear up while singing those lyrics
  • Something interesting about this movie is how these peoples’ gifts are gifts to the family and the community, but to those that hold them they’re responsibilities

“And I glow, ‘cuz I know what my worth is.” I love that part ! 💕
  • Love how Luisa protects her little sister through the whole song. 💓

“And never wonder, if the same pressure would’ve pulled you under” That’s the line that resonates with me.
  • To think that she never complained, never blamed her younger sibling for having to deal with the "heavy stuff" and instead she just peacefully accepted her role as the big sister looking out for everybody, she really deserves the "Best Big Sister" award for all what she's done for the family.
  • This song is perfect and her voice is incredible. Best new Disney movie ever. Thank You Disney

"I’m pretty sure I’m worthless if I can’t be of service” That hits hard as someone who loses their power a little while later in the movie
  • @jadencruse1026
the part that gets me every time is you can see how scared she looks but she’s still doing everything she can to protect mirabel. just reminds me a lot of having to put a brave face on for my younger siblings when i was suffering so much.

  • [Luisa:] I'm the strong one, I'm not nervous I'm as tough as the crust of the earth is I move mountains, I move churches And I glow, 'cause I know what my worth is I don't ask how hard the work is Got a rough, indestructible surface Diamonds and platinum, I find 'em, I flatten 'em I take what I'm handed, I break what's demanded, but Under the surface I feel berserk as a tightrope walker in a three-ring circus Under the surface Was Hercules ever like, "Yo, I don't wanna fight Cerberus"? Under the surface I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service A flaw or a crack, the straw in the stack That breaks the camel's back What breaks the camel's back? It's Pressure like a drip, drip, drip, that'll never stop, whoa-oh Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'til you just go pop, whoa-oh-oh-oh Give it to your sister, your sister's older Give her all the heavy things we can't shoulder Who am I if I can't run with the ball? If I fall to Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, whoa-oh Pressure like a tick, tick, tick 'til it's ready to blow, whoa-oh-oh-oh Give it to your sister, your sister's stronger See if she can hang on a little longer Who am I if I can't carry it all? If I falter Under the surface I hide my nerves and it worsens, I worry somethin' is gonna hurt us Under the surface The ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the iceberg is Under the surface I think about my purpose, can I somehow preserve this? Line up the dominoes, a light wind blows You try to stop it tumblin', but on and on it goes But wait, if I could shake, the crushing weight Of expectations, would that free some room up for joy Or relaxation, or simple pleasure? Instead, we measure this growing pressure (pressure) Keeps growing (pressure), keep going (pressure), 'cause all we know is Pressure like a drip, drip, drip that'll never stop, whoa-oh Pressure that'll tip, tip, tip 'til you just go pop, whoa-oh-oh-oh Give it to your sister, it doesn't hurt and See if she can handle every family burden Watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks No mistakes, just Pressure like a grip, grip, grip, and it won't let go, whoa-oh Pressure like a tick, tick, tick 'til it's ready to blow, whoa-oh-oh-oh Give it to your sister and never wonder If the same pressure would've pulled you under Who am I if I don't have what it takes? No cracks, no breaks No mistakes! No pressure!
