Beautiful music coming out of her, this reminds me of my grandfather he always had a thing for diesels. Well he did run a saw mill so I guess the two go hand in hand. great video thanks for posting

We have a TD-20 at work we still use and it's in good shape and runs great.
  • just like my flathead v8 i first started after 60 years ... nice smoke machine :D

Iron Bark must be in Australia possibly in good old Queensland. We had a later model TD9B with rear swinging rippers and manual angle blade and power shift. The engine was diesel only but required preheating via the glow plugs. It had the non-turbocharged 6 cylinder D-282 running at 2,300 rpm.
  • Talk about having a hell of a time priming that fuel system! That is such a cool little mini tractor... well, in comparison to most modern construction equipment.

Thanks Phil. It's a 1954 model. When it wouldn't start on petrol, we just towed it. The engine oil was very diesely, so that was changed after the startup.

If you look closely it does have an ignition system. That old style engine starts on gas then you switch over to diesel when it warms up.Proabaly the old gas system doesnt work.

I have a TD14 she starts after sitting, But then I keep every thing in working order, I use her to plow snow all winter because she the only big equipment to start at 20 below, start her on gas warm for 15/20 min kick over to fuel oil and work

Its alive, its alive. Love that little thing.
  • @pitman342
@bluejay148 It uses the coil, distributor and sparkplugs to start up and run like any normal petrol engine. When the motor warms up then the fuel rack on thr diesel pump is opened and the spark cut. The motor then runs as a normal diesel engine. The petrol is only for starting and warm up.
  • @fehrarce
well done, nice to hear you both worked together. You have a Jewel there.
  • @ehaden6597
my buddies started easy on gas. switching it to diesel was another story. use to blow the best smoke rings up through the trees.
  • @Dauntless244
That's the hardest start I've seen! I like the chrome stack too.
  • @a2dds

  • @robinrandy
i been very happy for the end... and sad for the mosquitoes & fliesbeing dead due to huge smoke, i really enjoyed watching the video, thanks....

first dozer i ever ran was one of these and even though i have seen it mentioned in a few comments it seems in this video the fact that this dozer is a gasoline over diesel was over looked. Ypu must start and warm them up on gasoline then quickly throw the lever to throw them on to diesel power. When done rigjt they are pretty easy to start and these were great tractors in their day.
  • @Vein1986
it's diesel which you start by lowering compression rate by decompression valves and switching it to carburateur and spark ignition, after starting it at gasoline and preheating, you are switching it back to diesel/injection
