The I-65 Killer, also known as the Days Inn Killer, stalked interstate 60 between Kentucky and Indiana. He targeted female hotel clerks in the early morning hours, and he has been officially linked to five homicides. However, some believe he is responsible for many more unsolved murders.

The first official victim was Vicki Heath. On February 21st 1987, her body was found behind a Super 8 Motel in an untended back lot. She had been attacked, robbed, beaten, and shot twice. Investigators recovered footprints, discharged rounds, and the perpetrator's DNA.

Margaret "Peggy" Gill would be found in the abandoned wing of Days Inn Motel on March 3rd, 1989. Her clothes were folded neatly beside her body. She had been attacked and shot, similar to Vicki Heath. And she would not be the only female hotel clerk discovered that day.

Just 50 miles south on I-65, Jeanne Marie Gilbert would be attacked on the same night as Peggy Gill. She was working the Days Inn in Remington, Indiana, when she was attacked and detained by the perpetrator. He abducted her and drove south on I-65 before retreating along rural exit into the countryside. A farmer would report hearing gunshots before later reporting her body to police.

Shortly after, two unnamed victims would be attacked. They would survive and provide a description to police that was developed into two separate police sketches. The victims would go unidentified to avoid reprisal against them or their families.

Police believe many other victims have yet to be connected. For example, many theorize that the murders of Evelyn Wright and James Walton are connected to this serial killer due to similarities in victimology, timeline, and locations. However, DNA does not link these cases with the other five.

In 2022, investigative genealogy would identify the I-65 killer as Harry Edward Greenwell. While many researchers are still investigating his background, dozens of newspaper articles trace his criminal history over the years.

Between the constant construction in Indiana on it and a serial killer I-65 might be the worst high way in America.
  • I managed a 24h convenient store/ truck stop next to the freeway. There were a lot of creepy ass truckers. One of them actually tried abducting an employee. He came in looking for a specific brand of antifreeze but couldn't remember what brand it was. She told him that all of the brands we carry are on the shelves. He still wanted her to come and look at one of the bottles. For some reason, she went with him. When they got close to his truck, he tried grabbing her but she got away. We reported it to the police but got no word back on if he was apprehended or not.

Itā€™s mind boggling to me that since technology was so limited for so long, what these people couldā€™ve possibly done that we have no knowledge of. We may never know if they are dead, in jail, or what. Some of them very well couldā€™ve done this their whole lives then died and were never held accountable. Shitty world. Great video
  • Criminally underrated content, your channel deserves so much more attention than it has

Iā€™m a 59 yo true crime buff from Louisville and still live there and I had never heard of this monster until now.
  • Low security risk.... has been robbed 3 times... yep that checks out
  • How did this guy shoot in or right outside of the motels and no guest heard the shots but a farmer heard two gunshots in a rural field from a 22 caliber gun no less? Like how is that possible?

Itā€™s nice to see these genealogy sites helping solve cold cases. Iā€™m on ancestry and people make fun of me for sharing my dna, but if it helps get killers off the street I call it a fair trade

There has been road construction (expansions from 2 to 3 or 4 lanes) for cars to travel from end to end of I-65. I live in middle TN and use I-65 weekly & my husband uses it daily. I can remember the construction equipment being staged in the center between the concrete barrier walls on the TN-KY state line up to Bowling Green as far back as 20 years ago when I was 13 years old
  • Your content is so good. I could see you doing such a good job covering the case of the (I-5 Killer) and (John Ackroyd: The killer of the ghost's of highway 20) both occured near where I live in Corvallis, Oregon. I appreciate your videos a bunch.
