I read about this unique practice of these hanging coffins many, many years ago, but does not remember the reasons behind this practice. Without watching this post to the end, the most logical reason that comes to mind is that parts of China are prone to devastating annual flooding and, instead of burying their dead in the ground which would be inundated by annual floods, the Bo people put their dead high up on cliffs to keep them dry. Also, it's symbolic of being closer to the heavens and one more reason is that it would not be easy for tomb robbers to rob these coffins.

I love you’re l how the narrator almost whispers as to not disturb the dead that this video is about.

The Chachapoya in the high Andes also had sky-high coffins in precarious cliff locations. They didn't have the power of flight, either. Neither did the ancient cliff dwellers in the American Southwest or some tribespeople in the high Himalayas who also made their homes and tombs in 'inaccessible' locations.

in yemen they have recently found mummies in the cliffs and caves of mountains

Excuse me, the thumbnail image of a hanging coffin you used is not from China, those hanging coffins (with the name BOMIT-OG written on it which happened to be my ancestor) is in Sagada, Mt. Province.. Philippines...

Some of the Bo People may have reached the Mountain Province, in the Cordillera Administrative Region in the northern Philippines and perhaps amalgamated with the mountain people called Igorots. In 2017, I visited the Municipality of Sadanga, Mountain Province to document Indigenous Knowledge, Systems, and Practices and upon conversing with one of the elders one of the topics that we tackled is about artifacts. He mentioned that a "White" foreigner have 'purchased' a jar from a local resident that traces back to Ming China. Also, it is known that Chinese merchants introduced copper gongs to the mountain people, hence it is one of the native instruments of the Igorot peoples.

The use of wrong image is actually a strategy used so that people who are eager to correct the mistake would keep om commenting which leads to better algorithmic advantages so that the channel may be popularized and compensated in lesser required time.

Men were lowered from the top of the cliff to the crevices as were you the coffins or men in the crevices lowered ropes to the coffins and pull them which is shown in the video, they would do similar burials in Surawasi Indonesia.

The Bo living descendants have been absorbed into the Miao people. There are Miao subgroups that call themselves as Bo and their ancestors are known as bird tribes.

Fascinating! and beautifully made documentary!
-
Those costumes are based on Bo funeral wear. That's no guarantee that living people wore that style of clothing. If a Bo saw these reenactments they might wonder why undead people are manhandling imitation coffins.
-
They put the coffins so high up so as not to be disturbed, now you disturb them ?

Lungompa is a mental discipline. It has been and still is practiced in many places of the world including Tibet.

Incredible ancient race. Destroyed by ancient prejudices.. so unfortunately is the way of mankind.
-
The hanging coffins in China have many similarity with the tradition in Tana Toraja in Indonesia.
