i love how the tongue ripping one was to get confessions and the person to speak but without a tongue you are physically unable to speak 💀

7:31 chinese water torture is bearable (at least more) if the droplets fall at the same speed, it gains max efficiency when the droplets come randomly

Keelhauling was even worse if you consider all the knife-like barnacles and clams that grew underneath the ship
  • “You can end up on this list as well.” after a whole video about torture methods, that sounds like a threat.

My favourite part about the brazen bull is that the person who made it was the first person they tested it on

I know that this is for literal educational purposes, but I'm just sat here nearing a panic attack at the thought of any of these being done to anyone.

I love that most of these are just like: “oh you didn’t die? do it again “

It should be noted that the iron maiden is more of a fictional torture device, with no verifyable evidence that it was used during the middle ages. Stories about them only started appearing during the 1800's, and some believe them to be a misinterpreted form of "schandmantel," or mantle of shame, which was basically a wooden barrel strapped to someone's body to shame them; like the stocks except you could walk around. The same could be said for the blood eagle, as while there are accounts of them in the Nordic sagas, it's debatable whether this was actually practiced by the Norse. There are a lot of outlandish elements in the sagas, which I've heard some people refer to as "Viking Hollywood," so it's possible the blood eagle is just fiction. Still, between them, I'd say reality is more gruesome than fiction.

Several of these we have very little to no proof on, including the blood eagle, bamboo torture, and particularly the iron maiden being a fake instrument made well after the middle ages.
