Catastrophic flooding continues Tuesday in Vermont after up to 9 inches of rain fell in parts of the state, sending rivers to crests higher than Hurricane Irene levels in August 2011 and topped only by the Vermont flood of 1927 – the greatest natural disaster in the state's history. #flooding #vermont #weather #foxweather

  • My hearts goes out to the residents in this area may they get the help needed

Sitting here in Texas in 100° plus temps for the next 10 days and little to no chance of rain. Grass is nearly dead and the ground is cracking open from lack of moisture. Send some rain here please. Prayers to everyone there.
  • Just because the population of Vermont is small doesn't mean they aren't important. We all bleed the stars and stripes regardless of where we live. Prayers to the whole state, I hope they get the funding they need to rebuild.
  • I used to travel to downtown Montpelier weekly. No matter flood water, mountains of snow or mud season muck, Vermonters are more than capable of dealing with this disaster. Hardy people who love their state like no other.

I'm in VT right now, an hour south of Montpelier. The flooding was bad everywhere yesterday, but the water receded rapidly overnight from most places. Still, a lot of roads and bridges are closed as they determine what's safe and they clear the roads. A lot of mud and debris is left behind. It is not as bad as Irene.

Any pics of the dam ? Naw That would be too informative .....
  • God bless all persons affected by all of this major flooding. My prayers goes out to them all.

I lived in the town of Rochester when Irene hit and it basically washed the center of town out, which was the preferable bit of pain from that particular storm that later on deposited caskets from the hillside cemetery into the space where my office was located at the time.

The anchor still doesn’t know if Montpelier is a place that can flood……?
  • What this report doesn’t mention is that the Wrightsville dam wasn’t built till 1935. Eight years after the flood of 1927.

I was in Brattleboro few minutes ago and the water is about 5-6 feet to the bridges. The new bridge their building is much higher. The Connecticut River was very high in Northfield , MA
  • Did anyone else notice the old couple come out, smoke, stare at the weatherman, and go back in? No? Maybe it was just me… In the midst of this scary situation they added a bit of humor….
