CTV News' Rachel Aiello breaks down what you need to know from this week in Canadian politics.

House of Commons Speaker Greg Fergus back in the headlines after a motion to oust him. He survived thanks to votes from the Liberals and NDP, but still faces a rocky road ahead with the Conservatives and Bloc saying they've lost confidence in him – Rachel breaks down the tumultuous week for Fergus.

The other main area of discussion and intrigue on the Hill this week centred around a pair of election-centric bills – The NDP wants to amend the government's electoral reform legislation to scrap a measure that would grant more MPs pensions, and the Conservatives offered to help the Liberals pass a piece of foreign influence-focused legislation. Here's what to know about both.

The Capital Dispatch Quote of the Week features Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne's response to Pierre Poilievre's claim that Canadians are "fleeing" to Nicaragua.

Finally, Rachel looks ahead to a big story that will ripple across Canadian politics next week – will the Bank of Canada make a cut the country's key lending rate.

When the official House of Commons transcript was edited , covering up for Greg Fergus , that was the last straw . This weasel needs to go . .
  • @ROGZI3L
Fergus is as nonpartisan as the Senate

The only ones that should be getting that highly sought after gold plated lifetime pension, is veterans!!
  • I needed 10 days for my military pension. I asked for an extinction for my medical discharge for an injury i received during deployment, and it was denied. These fckrs should be denied as well.
  • If MP want their pension, they better work hard and represent citizens. Pushing election day by one week to secure life time pension is just greedy! talk about career politics.
  • @fkturdo
1st. Called out. Why not call out yourselves? lol
  • The election day should not be dictated by MPs pension. That's not a right but a privilege. I guess they should stay in the same day.

the fact that many Canadians would rather leave Canada than live under Dictator Trudeau is completely understandable. I moved my family out 4 years ago.
  • @Talkingrain67
The fact that even 22% of Canadians would still vote for Trudeau is just beyond belief. Wacko
  • I immigrated to Canada in 2003. I moved to Europe last year because of the unaffordability, wokeness, tax payer abusive government. My daughter and adult grandson will be following soon.
