  • I love how Hubert is just as shocked to see his classmates supporting Edelgard. He's probably feeling so much joy, that's it's confusing him.
  • 0:53 I'm just now noticing the conscious choice the artist made to put Dorothea and Petra in the forefront protecting Edie as well. The support all the Black Eagles ladies have for each other is really something special and wholesome.

The fact is that Edelgard is a 17 year old girl who, like most 17 year Olds, knows exactly what is wrong with the world and how to fix it. The problem is that, unlike most 17 year Olds, she actually has the power to do it. Knowing her past, I can't say I fault her for her goals, and, given her age, can't blame her for making some poor choices about achieving those goals (an understatement, I know). I'm not saying I endorse or excuse her behavior. She started a war and I'm not convinced she had to. That said, I still understand where she's coming from and have compassion for her. If she had been willing to share the truth with Dmitri, I'm sure he would have had her back. And if she'd talked with Claude, maybe he could have helped everyone find a way to convince the church of the need for reform. But she didn't know who she could trust. Everything about the political machinations of the adults around her was damning evidence that she couldn't trust anyone. Trust was dangerous. Being feared was more reliable. This is what the adults around her taught her. So, the little girl, traumatized and scared, made a decision. She would build a world where nobody would have to suffer as she had ever again. She'd build a world that was safe for herself and those around her. And she'd wouldn't care if she had to be hated to do it. But as she grew older, as the toll of the conflict sank in, that scared little girl realized how reckless and rash her choices had been. She lamented the suffering she caused. Was she a hero? A tyrant? A monster? No. She was a traumatized teenage girl who didn't have the maturity to weird the power she was given, but did the best she could. In the end, I think she chose to see through her goals because to stop halfway would render all the pain she'd caused meaningless. Better to see it through so that the sacrifices aren't in vain. At least, that's what I think.

There will never be another Three Houses. Engage was good but it wasn't...yeah. When your heart beats for the first time in her arms at the end...just wow.
