  • My cat sleeps with me and stays in the hoese sometimes but mostly walks outside
  • I have 4 cats. We live in the country. One wants to be outside only, until it gets cold. One wants to go in/out/in/out several times daily. One is inside only ,and one is moody sometimes in sometimes out. We receive several "presents" daily on our porch. It's so funny how each has a different personality and preferences.

I live in a small town with lots of nature and very few streets around. A lot of people let their cat outside here and the two cats i've personally grew up with went to live 19 and 22 years.
  • Thank you - lots of points to consider. One point not mentioned specifically was injury due to conflicts with other cats; injuries include FIV (kitty HIV-Aids). Cats are also more likely to be targeted by very nasty people. The oldest pet cat was 38 years old.
  • My 9 cats are indoors/outdoors. A window is always left open. They are inside most of the time and if outside rarely leave my property.

My cat came to us from the outdoors so she gets to come and go as she pleases. She knows she had food and shelter when she wants but spends most days exploring. She even comes with us when we walk the dog, although we don’t use a leash, she knows the neighborhood well enough so we’re not afraid of her getting lost.

It really depends where you live in my opinion
  • Hi I’m a mom of two dogs never wanted a cat until my older sons cat tinks passed I was so upset he brought a rescue home for me he’s six mouths pickles gets in wonderfully with the Maggie and Rosie he’s a house cat but gets to roam round the garden on a leash He loves won’t go out unless I put it on I wouldn’t be without him or the girls 👏

I tried to have the indoor/outdoor conversation with my cat. Her answer was "Whatever, boomer. Now would you mind getting the door?"
  • @aleesiauh
When I tried to bring in a colony (😅) to be indoor babies only, they got fat and depressed. Now they get to come in and out as they please and like many others, they dont leave the property and since they are well fed, they dont bother birds.

My Ziva kitty is an indoor cat and I wouldn't want it any other way around here where threats are plentiful
  • I guess it’s really down to where your home is sited.Living in a fast and furious urban area,it’s wiser to restrict access to areas of fast traffic. It’s better to make a secure open area for them,if possible.
  • My cat Is amazing. She can go outside. But she often chooses to be inside. She’s always inside at a certain time at night and she’s never let outside before 10 AM. She really enjoys her life this way. SHe always comes in when I call her. She’s never frustrated and she’s a perfect cat. SHe’s my first cat I ever owned and I think how I’m doing things is the perfect way to do them. She is never outside all the time. When I leave the house she’s inside. I have a giant house with toys, scratching post, litter boxes on every floor. My cat has the best life of both worlds. . Even though she’s my first cat she’s amazing. Everyone that meets her say, oh my God she’s amazing. She’s so friendly. Her fur is super shiny, she gets thumbs up, clean bill of health from the vet and is always praised. I am proud of her, we have routines, we play every night before bed. She eats all organic and is my best friend. Loving, owning, having a cat is the best thing that has ever happened to me.
  • I've had several cats over some 45 years. Since I live alone, for practical reasons, they have all had an indoor/outdoor life style. All have lived a very long life (17+), but one which expired from natural causes at age 11 years. I have an extra large suburban lot, which allows much shrubbery around the house and a separate area of "field" (uncut field grass and weeds), which is a mini-hunting and nesting ground. Now older than most cats, the current feline, when out, stays most of the time on or under a large deck three feet off the ground and semi-enclosed. She is very territorial, so does not allow other cats to share that space. Her food and water are in the house, accessible though a cat door at will. If she wants to socialize with me, she isn't shy about it, but spends much of her time in her own world. In winter when its cold and/or wet, she tends to move into the house for the season. Always has her litter box there. Maximum life options for the cat. Minimum upkeep for me.
  • I understand. My cat Tiger-J is an indoor cat. It's not a good place for outdoor cats cats where I am. My parents had an outdoor cat once, because of the land they owned. His name was Sylvester, and he was a good mouser.
  • @avadavoudi338
So basically in one scénario cats live for themselves and in the other they live for us👍
  • My cat has been indoors since he was a kitten. We have way too many coyotes and occasionally mountain lions in my area that we see in daylight. It’s way too dangerous. He’s very healthy and is very playful and content. He has a nice catio to get the fresh air.
  • @geoffnichols3831
I had four cats, all of which lived to 15 yrs at least, the oldest was 22 yrs old, they were all outdoor cats, though kept in over night, all queens too.
  • @SkittyGirl300
I have one cat that loves to be outside. He will only come in and eat and then goes back out. My other cat is more indoor and likes to be on the screened porch to explore.
