  • The pen can be at 0% and still work. The only thing that won't work will be the Bluetooth features. Not sure why he never mentions this here or on his review.
  • @Danymok
The fact that the pen charges on the back instead of the frame means the frame can be fully metal, making it more sturdy. Meanwhile the iPad has a weak spot in its frame where the pen charges.

Personally, for a school student perspective, there's no competition between this and the iPad. You can actually and decently get things done on this, regardless of how bad tablet apps are optimized. Dex really has fixed that for me, at least personally

I don't have a Samsung tablet, but I have S21. I've used DEX for more than 3 years now and it really is a game changer. I have 13 inch fullhd touchscreen lapdock that transforms my phone in to a laptop when I'm on the go and at work I have 25 inch QHD monitor where I can just plug in my phone. I can browse the web, using teams and outlook, remote control to other computers, servers and many other things. Yes it's not Windows but you can really do work with DEX. It really grinds my gears that Samsung is not marketing enough DEX because it has SO much potential.

Why do reviewers always misleadingly not mention that the pen doesn't need to be charged to use its main features? Also the S Pen uses a supercapacitor, not a battery, so it takes less than a minute to get a usable charge (again, only for the BT features as all other features are passive) and doesn't degrade as fast as lithium ion batteries. A full 10-ish minute charge will get you over 10 hours of standby time or something stupid long like that.

The beauty of the S Pen is that it still works without having to charge it. You only lose out on the Bluetooth features like triggering taking photos/videos with the it when it's not charged. So you don't have to store the pen on the back if all you want to do is write/draw/navigate with it. With the Apple pencil, it's basically useless if not charged.

As a teacher I would use this in portrait all the time, with the s--pen filling out checklists, spreadsheets and rubrics all day long to evaluate and track my students' progress. As an ESL specialist constantly assessing English language development, even more so. Looking forward to holding one and seeing how comfortable it will serve as such a digital clipboard. If effective, I imagine all sorts of professionals would benefit from having it in hand to record the data they need to track.

I think students are definitely able to make good use of something like this as a main device. I personally use a Galaxy Tab s7+ for all my homework, notetaking, books, etc. at university, and it has made a massive difference. Huge plus on not having to carry around large binders of notes that are still impossible to navigate and maintain organization with. I will say, the ultra specifically does seem to be less practical for students, given the price tag and size. Something about the size of the Tab s7+ or s8+ is a sweet spot for me.
  • Typing on my Tab S8 Ultra right now. As a piano student, this is a godsend for sheet music. It's about the same size as an A4 sheet of paper and the S pen is great for annotating.
  • @djmaster3698
As a piano student I find large tablets like this, iPad Pro, or the Surface really useful for reading sheet music. The iPad has the better sheet music apps over the surface (ForScore) I haven’t used an android tablet however but I could see a very large tablet like this one appealing to me
  • One tablet replaces all the papers and notebooks I keep in my backpack. As a student, I can literally have all the notes and assignments from my entire education with me at all times. screenshot + drop into notes is a GOATed combo.

almost shed a tear being caught off guard by so much attention to an android tablet 😅 Regarding apps that don't fit, like IG, no much can be done w/out developer support, but at least samsung developed "advance features/labs/auto rotate apps", where you can have default ratio IG app (and others like it) regardless of tablet orientation, so it's like seeing a standard IG window on a big laptop screen
  • @johnnydeltoro
Did you know Samsung tablets have feature with Windows 10/11 that can be used wirelessly as second screen. No add ons required. Works out the box with any Windows 10/11

Sorry guys but I run my entire business on both a premium Chromebook and Galaxy Tab S7+ (will be purchasing the 8 Ultra). Much of what many people do is within the browser (not sure why there's still confusion about this); also, my entire workflow takes place within Google's Cloud so a premium Chromebook and a formidable Android tablet is more than I need to successfully do everything I can possibly think of and I've been successfully doing so for the past 11 years (haven't touched or ever needed a Windows or macOS PC, at all). Again, since my entire business is run within Google's ecosystem, I never need to worry about what device I'm using and never need to worry about manually transferring data (which I find shocking many still need to do) anyway, that's me. Thanks for reading!
  • A tablet this big is very useful for musicians or students in the college of music. Rather bringing tons of music sheets, they can now access and bring tens of thousands of pieces in that tablet. The big screen will be very useful to see the notes clearly. It's a great move for musicians to become almost paperless when they travel for events or do gigs and other performances. To choirs, rehearsals, and other events, this tablet will help them greatly.
  • I personally have a good phone (21 ultra), a good computer (it's a gaming computer), and now a good tablet (the ultra), I never thought I would get a tablet, but I got it for schoolwork which bridges phone and computer. A tablet is great for taking notes and basically having a mini laptop, and the fact I can stream my computer to the laptop and use it as a second screen, amazing
  • @Todunsoetan
As a student this would fit perfectly into my workflow. I'm an engineering student and all the software we use is too powerful for any laptops really so we have to go to campus or remote in anyways. Seeing other students take pictures with their tablet and annoyed straight to it, is something I'm quite jealous of when I'm note taking on my laptop. And in the evenings having such a large display for content consumption would be amazing
  • @bashirsfar3825
As a student, a tablet makes a lot of sense as a great note taking device. I can easily pull up my professors lecture notes from online and upload and share those notes easily. Not to mention it reduced my bag weight by close to 10lbs, which was previously very straining and is what prompted me to get an iPad.
  • So many reviewer talk about the pen "charging" but thats only for gestures... to use as a pen it doesn't ever actually have to charge cuz its wacom tech. That's one thing that always bugs me a little when reviewers talk about the pens.
  • @pimisi
Why don’t you guys review DeX especially on the Ultra. It is really a cool feature. I know if it were Apple you guys would have made tons of videos about it.
