Adam Savage's One Day Builds: Blade Runner 2049 Helmet Parts!

Published 2022-03-09
Adam's back to replica prop building with some Blade Runner goodness! Adam recently acquired a perfect replica of Sapper Morton's helmet as seen in the opening of Blade Runner 2049. And in pursuit of creating a full costume to go along with that piece, he needs to make an articulating mechanical air hose cage that connects to the helmet. And instead of 3D printing it, he's going to hand machine it from scratch!

Hi Adam, Deetz here, thanks for the shout out and the compliments on the helmet!!!! Awesome linkage for the hose, loving it!!

I think the greatest gift to us from this pandemic has been Adam's self-filmed one day builds. I never want them to stop. Legit the videos I most look forward to popping up in my feed.
  • Such a good laugh, there is nothing better than an offscreen crash with the “im fine” response. Adam you are a gem in many ways! Thank you for being you
  • @ryanshorts339
Adam walking off camera followed by the crashing of falling parts and a distant "Im okay.." is comedy gold

That tubing is used for framing in hospital bed traction setup. I work with every day being a orthopaedic nurse for 30 years. We have literal tons of that tubing. Zoll is the company who sold the over head frames.

Adam, I commissioned the first one from deetz! We collaborated on accurizing the design as much as we could. References were hard to come by! The beauty of this accessory gives me heart palpitations. Great work.

I saw this and the first thing I thought was "You can totally machine this!". My head is still not used to having a 3D printer. The fact that you put the thread on the OUTSIDE lip instead of the inside is freaking brilliant. I watch you make things for these little gems! Thanks, Adam.

The wipe to Grey scale and sad music when he talks about the 3D print is, as Adam would say, chef's kiss. Kudos to the editor.

I feel like the editing has been extra-cheeky in this video. And i'm here for it !

I've been having a bad week and seeing Adam's face light up playing around with his finished connections gave me the biggest smile, that was seriously contagious.
  • @Thatguy-uc3dy
that absolute joy on his face when he finished it, really made my day .
  • @mdegraauw112
The editing on this is absolutely marvelous. I missed this style of editing

The way you explained the air tube armor and the way it looks I can see why you chose the pipe you did. The way it connects and moves it reminds me of the old wooden or plastic snake toy. Except for the fact that it doesn't degrade in size like the toy.
  • @jonsvednell9135
I love this and how we get full minutes of Adam playing with the Bild and just the smile on adams face.
  • @ashcla
Just seeing the assembled parts wiggle and clink around was honestly the coolest thing I've seen this week, if not the past month! I'm glad Adam's obviously as pleased with it as I am 😄
  • @oaklog93
I love how organic the movement looked while he was playing with it. plus his childlike glee is always a pleasure. :)

Adam is a TERRIFIC story teller. Explains why he is so good at weathering too. He tells an object's story with the weathering he applies to it. Love it.

35:30 My favorite part of this build has to be the sound. I absolutely love it, it reminds me of the sound of clanking armor. So satisfying.
