With another mutant war on the horizon in X-Men Apocalypse, I thought it high time to start looking into the powers and weaknesses of these extra-normal humans and prep some strategies on how to handle some of the franchise's heavy hitters. And who better to begin with than the man himself - Magneto.

6:22  Matpat: “His strongest feat is lifting the golden great bridge.” X-Men apocalypse: “So then we had magneto pull metal from literally everywhere on earth.”

Wait a minute... is no one going to talk about how those bullets he was hit by and was saved by quick silver were ceramic???
  • @daphnedherbert
In the comics he can absolutely control all magnetism. He can even control the human bodies electrochemical signals, once freezing the X-Crew and stopping them from using their powers.
  • The reason Quicksilver had to save Magneto and the reason he got hot was because they were special plastic bullets, not metallic ones.
  • @micflynn1
yes but, he has a magnetic field of 1,000,000 Tesla so even para magnetic materials, including Wood, can be controlled by his magnetic field.
  • @eddiegreencheez
Those bullets were specifically made with no metal, specifically to use against him. Master of magnetism but only one part, that's like somebody having super strength but only in one arm

wolverine stops bullets with his head.

I've always been under the impression that, despite his name, Magneto's power was "control of metal," not actual magnetism. The problem he would have with bullets isn't a matter of magnetism or anything, it's a matter of reaction time. It's not like he has spider sense or something.

The term "full metal jacket" refers to the total covering of the lead core by a copper jacket. No gun fires a steel cased round. It would damage the steel of the barrels rifling. The steel cased ammo that is discussed is the cartridge of the ammunition not the projectile. There is a thing called steel core ammunition. This has a steel penetrator in the core of the round instead of the lead core that most bullets have. The nickle cased rounds are also just the jacket of the cartridge, not the bullet itself.

I honestly thought he was going to say police officers use silver bullets at night for colonial protocols about werewolves.

The most important question to ask could magneto lift Thor’s Hammor (old one)
  • @PoopaChallupa
Points to bullet: "Lead Core" Points to brass casing: "Copper Jacket" The projectile is a lead core with a copper jacket. The casing that remains behind is a brass casing. Together, they are called a 'round'.

Days of future past, when magneto drags raven around with a bullet in her leg

Film theory : Wolverine can't control bullets, while magneto can! Every Wolverine fan : Why do you think Wolverine needs to control bullets? He doesn't. That's the point.
