‘A few laughs’: Australia’s breakdancer Raygun makes worldwide splash

Published 2024-08-12
Sky News Host Chris Kenny discusses Australia’s Olympic Breakdancer Raygun’s competition performance.

“The Aussie breaker, or breakdancer Raygun, who scored zero and has been the subject of much mirth around the world,” Mr Kenny said.

“This activity, this dancing, shouldn't even be in the Olympics, and second while the Aussie danced about as well as most Aussie blokes do at a wedding reception, let's be glad we all got a few laughs out of it.”

People defending her are basically giving her a participation award.

The Kardashians unfortunately proved (and normalised) that there is no such thing as bad publicity!

Why are you celebrating someone who got 0-0-0 score? Why are you celebrating mediocrity? It's a total disgrace that she did this at the Olympic level. The slow of mind that clapped their hands because she "participated" are failing to comprehend the situation that she was in. This isn't a grade 4 sports day event. Truly pathetic.

I’m sure there are plenty of better dancers in this country that don’t find this very funny. As a taxpayer, I certainly don’t think it’s funny.

Praise without criticism is propaganda, the media loves propaganda, so that's what we get.

Raygun is the one laughing all the way to the bank. She’s got Aussies paying her salary and her trip to Paris.

I'm glad raygun didn't take herself too seriously. It was only the olympics. She should be made to repay the costs of sending her though.

I can hardly wait until the Olympics brings in musical chairs as the next big sport.
  • If you are a PhD candidate and searching for a research topic, here it is- how did this delusion go on for so long? This is a legendary case of “Emperor’s New Clothes”.

She proved with her own example it was never gender discrimination but she was just bad at it. The other really talented and celebrated b-girls at the olympics didn't spend time writing thesis about discrimination but just got on with it to get better.

Umm, her degree says BA (Bachelor's of Art) and her abstract states her "work" is a thesis. Neither of these things has anything to do with a legitimate PhD degree or the dissertation required in fulfillment of that degree. Did she get "life credits" to satisfy the requirement of a Master's degree required to even apply for a legitimate PhD program? What a poor joke on the stage of what used to be the greatest competition in the world.

No one is completely worthless when they can serve as a bad example. RIP olympics.
  • I guess we can all agree she single-handedly doomed break dancing as a sport for good.

I never knew epilepsy was an Olympic sport.
