Dakota Johnson stops by TODAY to talk about her new film “Madame Web,” her career since starring in “50 Shades of Grey,” growing up with actor parents Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith, and why she "jumped" at the chance to poke fun at nepo baby criticisms. She also reveals that her father cut her off as she perused acting instead of a college degree.

  • Everyone who wants to be an actor, who doesn’t have parents or relatives in the acting industry, find nepotism “annoying” too.

Nepo babies need to own their title. It gets a foot in the door and that chance is a huge help. IMO, most people who have connections would take that opportunity. After that its all about the work...the production will either like your work or not. And ultimately the audience will definitely let them know if they have any talent. So, it isn't annoying or boring... Saying that is being lame.

Her response to the nepotism is kind of annoying. She obviously had a substantial advantage and idk why she downplays it instead of just owning it

Her hairstyle is beautiful. Perfect for her. Great stylist.

Nepo baby-is not about what your family gives/gets you. It's about what your family name gets you. Your family may have "cut you off" but the name gets you in the door. Don't pretend it doesn't make a difference. Not just in the entertainment world. It makes a difference in all types of situations. I don't blame anyone for using their connections, but please don't pretend they don't exist. There are all kinds of situations where connections help. Celebrities don't live in the real world. Our kids had a leg up due to certain connections we had and we're not talking celebrity or wealth, but other connections via career paths. I don't blame them, but seriously, don't act like you did it all on your own. The name Griffin and Johnson in Hollywood carry a lot of weight. Nepotism exists. I don't really care, but quit playing the "annoyed" crap..

I love Dakota. She's so beautiful, lovely and down to Earth. Wish her all the best always!

lol she says her dad cut her off but we're forgetting that her mom is a famous, rich af actress too who is also the daughter of a Hollywood legend or whatever (I really only saw her in The Birds). Like Dakota, you were and always will be rich, and let me guess, your "modeling" consisted of telling Gucci you're the daughter of famous people and they handed you a $50K check for just showing up

Dakota is the definition of lovely. ❤
  • @pamelaaranzazu
of COURSE she doesn't want to talk about how if you're born into Hollywood you have an easier time becoming an actress.... as nepo babies go though she's one of the better ones!!! I adore her entire energy
  • I don't think she likes any of the movies she's been in, but I guess you take the roles you offered.

anyone know what the meaning is behind the number on the sign the guy in the window is holding?

Love these media promos with Dakota for Madame Web. Just watching everything available online 😅
  • @kelsilulu
I’m sure he wouldn’t let her be out on the streets. She’s a nepo baby and these people take opportunities away from people who are really trying to work hard to make it

This was my experience seeing Madame Web: The group of 4 teenage year old girls who was sitting next to my friends and me were being obnoxious the whole time, chatting and taking pictures with flash on. They got up and left at one point (so we thought) A little over halfway through the movie, an employee comes up to my friends and me and accused us of smoking in the theater and threatened to kick us out, even though we most definitely were not smoking. About 5 minutes after the confrontation, the people in front of us get up and leave and never come back. Once the movie ends and we’re walking out of the theater, we notice the group of teenage girls had just moved seats to another part of the theater. So they likely knew they were going to get snitched on and moved seats, so we got the blame…it was a wild movie going experience. Oh and the movie was awful. Probably the worst I’ve seen in the past decade

I hope she goes a long way with playing Madame Web . So proud of her for going out and making a life for herself.
