"Backcountry Discovery Routes are multi-day off-pavement routes for dual-sport and adventure motorcycle enthusiasts who want to explore and experience rugged backcountry places."

This 1000 mile route usually takes 6-7 days to complete and our guys must complete it within 5 days for 4 of them to make it to a wedding (and still be in 1 piece). 1 of them is the officiator and one is the father of the bride! Usually no one gets a kitchen pass for such a time sensitive and risky endeavor. On top of that they start out the journey traveling 500 miles from Billings, MT just to get to the start of the BDR in Baggs, WY after trailering their bikes through the night from Fargo ND! See if these guys make it in time and peril awaits them (hint someone gets hurt bad)!
NOTE: 3 out of 4 expert courses were taken during this trip - the ultimate experience and challenge in any BDR route

The following is a great write up from www.wyomingcarboncounty.com/blog/180-wyoming-backc… ...

The Wyoming Backcountry Discovery Route (#WYBDR) is the newest addition to the collection of off-road adventure routes and the 11th in the series. The WYBDR is the most remote discovery route in the least populated state. Wyoming's vast public lands made it an ideal spot for the new route. The 950-mile BDR passes through five mountain ranges with elevations approaching 11,000 feet! The WYBDR can be ridden in either direction from South to North or from North to South.

Riders will experience amazing views and are likely to encounter a variety of wildlife along the route. The route is made up of public dirt roads and primitive double-track lanes. According to the BDR website, "This is the most remote BDR, so plan ahead and be prepared to have a true backcountry adventure." The route usually takes 6-7 days to complete.

Beginning in Baggs, WY, the route traces the mountain ranges to the east through the Sierra Madre and Medicine Bow Ranges, crosses west to the Wind River Range, then goes back east and north through the Bighorn Mountains, eventually ending at a remote Wyoming-Montana border. Almost every section includes some moderately technical riding, as the remote two-track flows through regions of vast high-desert, short-grass prairies, and alpine climates.

From the UK but we love Wyoming - The WYBDR is definately on my bucket list !! Great Video !!
  • We were about a month to 6 weeks behind you last year. We rode it in September. Had to pass on bridger mtn. A loop first day as it was hailing, water was running down the road and it was greasy. But the other A loops were noticeably quiet, Deep creek, Kenady peak and the woodchuck pass were all ridden. Lots of other bikers on the trail but apparently they like to get to the brewery's by 2pm... You passed up great camping on the shore of Alcova reservoir to camp out there on cow pie flats! That probably is the 2nd worse place to be in a rainstorm on that trip. I can't believe the guy on the KTM 500 slabbed that from Billings to Baggs, but once you got in the tough stuff , you were all probably wishing for that bike. Great video, headed to watch part 2, I want to see how the guy on the 790 handles the start of woodchuck pass!

If it is raining it is really hard going, great job guys!

So fun to watch. A group of us completed the BDR in August 2023. I was pretty impressed with the Scrambler.

Virtually all of the videos I have seen regarding the WYBDR illustrate how challenging this route is, especially when wet/muddy. Well done!

Finally a farm channel that rides adv bikes. We are planning to do Wyoming this summer
  • Wow, that's quite an adventure. I have some friends who went to Colorado last year with their ATVs and rode the Continental Divide. I'm anxious to see the rest of your journey. Red E rocks...!

We did this BDR this summer. (Late July) Had an absolute blast!

We did the WYBDR in 5 days and didn't really feel like we pushed hard at all. The longest day was Beaver rim to Atlantic City. I felt it was pretty relentless. The other long days were mostly easy so a long day, but not hard riding. Especially the day coming into Ten Sleep. We did quite a few miles, but most were 80 mph+ roads.
  • @MeerkatADV
Trying to travel faster as a group can be a chore. The route is 880 miles by the way. I really enjoyed it, though I felt the Nevada BDR was far more remote.
  • I was waiting to see the Carnage of coming down the sandtrap in the Shirley mountains! Disappointment, one bike going down through without incident. I'll bet the others weren't quite as lucky. Section 4, Beaver Rim, is no joke-- I'm surprised you guys decided to take that on in the same day that you exerted yourself going through the Shirley's.

Egg Zack T Lee. What I dream about. Instant fan/subscriber from New Hampshire. Yep ~ Out on the trail with friends under the big sky.🌟(now droooooling over that Suzuki 1050 V-Strom DX. ). Yep, Egg Zack T Lee. ~ My dreams to become reality. Sooooooon. Keep the your "peeps" together for this trip or any trip really and you'll have a You Tube "thing." Yea, I could see that. Course there are "dangers." Talk about safety. At least your viewers wouldn't be anxious. Wow. Oh yea. EggZackTLee ! ✨🌸🙏🌸✨
  • @jessefaul832
Great video! Which adventure bike did you think was the best for the trip?
  • @billjames3148
Nice trip. Thru my backyard, So which rider had the least trouble ?
  • @charlesr9110
Hiw was the gearing on the ducati? Guess it was a little high for a bdr?
  • @BWYinYang
I'll stick with ATV or Side by Side. 🤔
  • @ultrarnr4454
Not trying to demean but I think those large bikes are to big for your experience level. I think you would of had a better time on smaller bikes, plus why have such large bikes and be in second of third gear tops 90% of the time? I wouldn't take my Tiger on something like that, but I sure would enjoy taking my Verys 300.
