interesting documentary. Nashville as seen through the lens of the successful, however the other side of the coin is not shown, the talented many who came and left to go home. Their story is more bitter than sweet.

As much love as I have for Nashville, they almost killed country music. Churning out pop music like a factory, made country music terrible but thankfully social media has loosened the control the music industry had. Appalachian artists like Tyler Childers and Sturgil Simpson are keeping country at it’s roots.

I’m so proud and fortunate to be born, raised and still living in my home state of Tennessee. And I’m so happy Nashville, and traditional country music are receiving the respect they deserve.

This was inspiring and it gave me more hope for my future as a young musician in this town. Nashville is a small town in a big city and I love the energy it has. Thanks for posting this documentary!

So whatever you sing or write Nashville has a home for you
  • When I was a kid in Oklahoma my uncle used to set out in his pickup behind his old house and listen to the Grand Ole Opry and to me it seemed like a place far far away, almost another planet. So when I first turned that corner on Broadway and saw the Ryman, I was like going into some other dimension. It wasn’t just the music it was a combination of glamour, drama, and a mystic experience that had just flooded my mind. Don Goodman one of the song writers I used to manage told me when he saw the movie Your Cheatin Heart, he knew he wanted to be a songwriter and of course that hit me too and many other experiences. It’s more than music for us, that’s what the fans see and hear but it’s a lot of other things for writers, singers and people in the business and when we lose sight of that we start making bad records, it’s like leaving the salt or sugar out of a mix, whatever is called for. I think we’re experiencing that in Nashville now because of people who didn’t have those reasons for being here. Willie said he was trusting people that should know they was in that position to know but they didn’t and they don’t now.

In England we've still got London, Manchester, Liverpool and even Leeds as music Hubs. Different kind of music though

I love that Rivers Rutherford was in this, it is artist like him that are the real talent in the music industry and he shows that he can outplay pretty much anyone who is mainstream.
  • I'm proud to be living in Nashville even if I'm currently Houseless cause Nashville is where it's at from a creative aspect as a musician singer songwriter struggling to get myself together here
  • I really enjoyed this. It was great to get a visual reference to a lot of the things I’ve learned from listening to Tyler mayhan Coe’s podcast ‘cocaine and rhinestones: the history of country music’ …being English (and 35) country music has always gone over my head…mostly due to getting hardly any exposure to it here in the UK and the stuff I had heard I didn’t really understand, but I’ve learned so much from cocaine and rhinestones and discovered some amazing music

Nashville is still a country music town despite what they are selling here. The line "right now there is some young kid writing a song" is beside stating the obvious, yeah of course there is. It's called the cycle of life. The question really is, is do the future kids care enough about music to support those that insist on making a living doing it. We'll see but the entertainers must entertain no matter what the benefit is.

Gordie Sampson has written some beautiful material. That's for sure. Wish he was here among you folks, instead of being talking about. One of my favourite musicians, that's for sure. And Canadian!
