Mazda Skyactiv 2.2 D Engine noise, quick and precise diagnosis.

A simple and precise diagnosis of engine noise can be applied to any brand of engine. In this instance, we are dealing with Skyactive 2.2 diesel engine knocking noise.
Link: Timing chain and oil pump chain (BALANCER UNIT) removal installation. Important info: you do not need to remove the sidewall (side cover) for the removal of the balancer unit. ( mark sprocket and oil pump chain, so you can align with the chain, later on, remove sprocket's bolt and remove the balancer unit) • Mazda Skyactiv D engines Timing chain...
Another Link: Balancer Unit removal and Strainer replacement: • P06DE P055F Low Oil Pressure Mazda 2....
In this case, I suspect there was an injector gas leak causing carbon build-up and gather on the oil pump filter( its proper name is Strainer), So the Strainer gets clogged and inhibits lubrication.
To prevent lubrication failures, Mazda introduced software to monitor oil pressure constantly, and if the oil pressure drops below a particular threshold, a warning light gets triggered. At this stage, it is not harmful to the engine. What is dangerous is the negligence of the driver. (often, the vehicle comes for inspection after hundreds of kilometers since the initial malfunction). For the Mazda workshop, it is easy to check at what mileage DTC had been set, available only for dealers.
Prevention: in the case of a warning light, go to the dealer right away, do not delete error codes; it will give the technician a clearer picture.
Prevention with no issue: ask for replacing injector gaskets every 100 thousand km. Cost is incomparably low to the price of any related repair.
Another essential factor is proper engine oil. Other oils not approved by
the manufacturer will not withstand oil dilution, so use genuine oil:
Engine oil for (Europe) Mazda Original Oil Supra DPF 0W-30, Mazda Original Oil Ultra DPF 5W-30, Alternative ACEA C3 0W-30, 5W-30.
Engine oil (Except Europe): Viscosity (SAE) 0W-30, 5W-30 Grade ACEA C3
Australia and New Zealand: Viscosity (SAE) 5W-30 Grade ACEA C1 or JASO DL-1
Regarding wrong oil and not performing an oil change is common practice (oil gets diluted with diesel and the lubrication gets significantly worse, especially at the end of its life). Oil life is dependent on your driving habits and driving distances. If you drive short distances daily, the automatic DPF regeneration is performed more often, so oil increases dilution. That is why Mazda has introduced flexible service and oil change. PCM (Powertrain Control Module) software can monitor driving distances, frequency of DPF regeneration, and other factors contributing to faster deterioration of engine oil and depending on gathered data to inform you when oil change is needed.

Oh my god! I like to buy a second hand Mazda CX5 2.2 skyactive Diesel 175. Since 27 years I drove different Mazda vehicles and I was always very satisfied. The CX 5 would be my first Diesel because I'm looking for more torque to tow my caravan. From up how many km's I must expect a defect like this. Normally I mantain my cars always very good, especially the oil change. I don't go to Mazda garage, because they rip off the customers. I bring my cars to a very good free garage where they can repair all different brands. The owner learned those days in a local Mazda garage. Your video is very interesting. Thank you for showing it. Greetings from Germany.

As a Mazda 6 2.2 185 owner (2009) I can say mine is going strong at 210k miles (yes Miles) as our friend said it’s about clockwork maintenance. Oil changes every 5-7k with right oil . I only go to Mazda main dealers. Great video

Thank you for your videos. I find them to be very informative, well explained and helpful. One could never stop learning from these videos. I have a 2015 Mazda 3 2.2 D which I bought certified from a Mazda dealer with 31000kms. Unfortunately it did not come with a service history and the engine has no issues at the present 38000kms. Being mechanically minded I change the oil every 3000 to 4000 kms/yearly using Mazda original Ultra DPF oil and filter. Also, I always monitor the DPF regen before turning off the engine i.e. if I notice that regen is in process I do not turn off the engine but instead take it for a spin using low gears until regen has ended. I never experienced any oil rising/dilution so far. My question is this: having read about issues with these engines do you think I should check the strainer for clogging or the exhaust camshaft for wear after a certain mileage as a preventative maintenance? Or should I stay with just the regular oil changes unless there's anything wrong? In my ownership all I did was re tighten the injector nuts, clean and inspect the intake shutter valve and a pcm update at the dealer as a recall concerning the egr.

Hi, Thanks for the informative videos. Much appreciated. What kind of diagnostic program do you use if I may ask?

Hello! Thank you for this video. I just bought Mazda 6 2.2 SkyActiv-D 2016. After two days, I noticed the same noise and problem with my engine. Is it possible to fix it and is it worthy? :((

Hello jb what can be causing bubbles in radiator. It's started when the air went cold and then found out the water was low no lights on or overheating. The water temperature is between 80c to 92c. Could it be egr cooler or headgasket
