After a trade from OKC to the Charlotte Hornets, Vasilije Micic is proving everyone EuroLeague MVPs belong in the NBA. In this video, BasketNews’ Augustas Suliauskas analyzes how all the Serbian PG needed was the right opportunity & why European rookies coming to the NBA might need to look for opportunity in franchises that are low in the standings.

Lithuanian bros, you are killing it with basketball content and knowledge. I will remember your fans supporting the national team against us even on -20. True love of the game. Keep it going, love and respect. Greetings from Gajdobra. 🥔

I’m a hornets fan and when the trade with OKC was announced I didn’t even see his name in it but I’m very happy with how he’s been for Charlotte

I don't remember anyone on the Thunder or their fans slandering Micic. In the minutes he played, he was always a steady hand and finding ways to impact the game. I think the Thunder signed him because they felt he would be a great veteran presence to help guide a young team, but the whole Thunder squad has been so damned good and mature, he wasn't needed for that purpose. So, Micic was more of a luxury than a necessity. He is perfect for a team like San Antonio (or Charlotte), assuming they want to actually win games. Actually, he would be great for just about any team who needs to bolster their lineup at the guard position.

Just look at how Drazen Petrovic was used by the Blazers, how Sarunas Jasikevicius was used by the Warriors, and how Vassilis Spanoulis was used by the Rockets. That tells us all we need to know about the way the NBA views EuroLeague stars.

My dream as a non american is that we would have a basket ball international champions league instead of our best players going to play in the american associaction

the Thunder were just too deep and could only use Vasilije in spot minutes but with the Hornets injuries, he's gotten the opportunity to show people who he is.

Same thing happened to Satoransky once John Wall went down with injury, he established place for himself and could get a new contract from Bulls after. Unfortunately his 3p shot went missing and then he moved back to Barca
  • @lanelesic
The 3pt shooting will improve as he plays more and gets that match fitness and routines back up to high true level.

Micic is going to be better and better. It is just a question of time. For Veznekov I am more dubious because he needs good team spirit. He needs movement and he needs player who play for others not for themselves.

As a Serbian, i've seen Micić develop since he was like 16, and man i must say it really took a while. He showed talent early on, but was a late bloomer at the top level. There were times in his career where almost everybody thought he is just not going to make it big, and important years approaching his prime many instances he wasn't a part of the national squad while some senior guys in the summit of their careers took what should've been his place, it seemed as if the federation and the basketball council gave up on him even as Teo was approaching retirement. He already proved everyone wrong, and with this charlote episode has shown that he can hang just fine with the best of the best. Good for him. In terms of further opportunities, i highly doubt he will be given any significant role in a playoff team, because of 3pt% and his defense that is exploited even in europe at times, as he is known to be a mediocre defender on his best night. As for Vezenkov, i think his play style is a better fit for modern NBA and may prove to be a valuable 15-20min piece on a contending team.

I stand on Sasha Vezenkov being a legit NBA high impact player. The Sacramento Kings have to actually PLAY Vezenkov and feature him heavily in the offense. He's elite in off-ball movement, cuts to the basket, 3pt catch and shooting, and can help off-ball on defense fairly well. Every time I watch Sacramento they just have him in the corner spacing the floor.

IMO, if Micic is a free agent, he should sign and play for the Denver Nuggets as back up. Coach Malone did one hell of a job with Campazzo back then and Micic is a little bit better. Plus he gets so play with his Serbian national team teammate in Jokic.
  • @gabepizza
Going back to this. Euroleague MVP Vezenkov 2 minutes (garbage time) in a play-in elimination game
  • @52cm
It’s very nice to see him doing well in Charlotte. Without him Anadolu Efes wouldn’t win the Euroleague. He was a very dominant player in Europe.
