My theory is that Stephen Hillenburg forced SpongeBob plots to stay simple in order to force his writers to be naturally funny instead of rely on over the top animation like Seasons 4 and up.

The fact that i’ve seen all of these episodes makes me feel great about my childhood.

My favorite is when Spongebob tells Patrick "Your genius is showing" and Patrick replies with a shocked "WHERE?!"

The “I’d better take the shortcut” was always one of my favorite jokes because of how they casually break the fourth wall and Mr. Krabs questions it for a second. 😂
