Loughcrew: myths, history and astronomy of a Neolithic cemetery in Ireland

Published 2024-05-07
A special Mythical Ireland (www.mythicalireland.com) film production examines the myths, history and astronomical aligments of the Loughcrew cairns in County Meath. Anthony Murphy explores the importance of the cairns at Slieve na Calliagh, outlining some of the myths and history of the Neolithic passage-tombs while also examining their astronomical alignments. The documentary was made in conjunction with filmmaker Grant Wakefield, and contains beautiful music by Andrew Heath. It was first premiered on the 'History with Kayleigh' YouTube channel on the day of Bealtaine (5th May) 2024.

  • Should be put into State ownership and preserved as a National park. Great work Anthony - míle buíochas leat.
  • Beautifully filmed, narrated and scored! The Irish people themselves need to be extremely vigilant in preserving these treasures. Their government spends most of it's time aiding and abetting hoards of foreign yobs, most of which could care less about Irish culture.

Marvelous Anthony! I have yet to visit Loughcrew. What an exraordinary place. Truly the knowledge of our ancients was vast and cosmic. The fact that the Carrowmore cairn complex is in visual alignment with Loughcrew cairns cannot be accidental.

Still seeing any of the carvings after 5000 years, to me is a testament to our people.

Lovely and interesting video Anthony if only the governments would appreciate it like you do
  • We need to protect these sites now more than ever, the strangers poring in to the country few will respect them.

Wow. I've watched this several times now and am trying still to wrap my mind around it. I can't seem to think this deeply. I've taken notes. That helps a little. The odds of Brennan and Roberts rediscovering the alignments and us seeing all of it here right now is almost unbelieveable. I feel special. I'm only 44% Irish and I can feel it. Thank you so much, Anthony!!

In 2000 on New year's day I was the first to get the key and myself and some friends spent some time inside. It's such a sacred place. Fantastic video. ❤

Wonderful, if sad, video. Thank you!

Fantastic video! I love (love love) archeoastronomy and it's discovery of cultural implications, some of which have left their mark right up to this very day. (I may have worded that funny, but my guess is that "you get my drift." :)
