I was blessed to see Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Koko Taylor, Buddy Guy, BB King and Albert King live in the 80s....those are shows you just don't forget.

Saw John Lee Hooker in San Jose about 30 years ago. Tickets were sold out. I must of looked desperate. A man weighing about 400lbs opened a side door offered to let me and my friend in with promises we we wasn’t planning on keeping! The 400lb man ushered us in and placed us at the front of the stage. He gave us a smile and a wink 😉 as to say he’d see us later. I’m not sure what happened to the big man. But John Lee was amazing!
  • Saw John Lee at a bar on Kodiak island in the late 70's. Me and my buddy had 1 bourbon 1 scotch and 1 beer with him at intermission. He downed the bourbon but said he wanted to sip his scotch. A real down to Earth guy. Thanks John

Mama said, "Let that boy boogie......he got to let it out!" Any song by John Lee Hooker never fails to put a smile on my face and a tap tap to my toes.....just got to get up and dance.
  • Haven't heard this in a long time, too long. Some of the greatest blues around.

Newport Folk Festival 1965 , I sat on one end of a park bench with John Lee Hooker other end leading a guitar workshop with about 15 - 20 college kids spread out at the Master's feet. He looked pretty old at that time--'65--same year that Dylan came out 'electric ' fr his 2nd set & the fans booed him like crazy, if u can believe it. They settled down a bit afterwards. I had been up to Newport the year before when Joan first introduced Dylan & he played all acoustic = all from his first 2 albums. Things were simpler back then, kids, less 'organized ' ,more informal. At night, in the downstairs bar of the Viking Hotel room some of the artists were mingling with the peeps- no problem. I was standing at the bar , a couple seats near Mary Travis of PPM & she was ' well on her way' & calling someone a Braying Ass !! Great memories from a long time ago 😅. This video with JLH is excellent 😮😂😊 when is it from? .i'd guess '84---'90 !? One of the best I've seen.!!! Keep on Rocking them Blues. ❤❤😊

I was at that show. Absolutely fantastic. I think it was 15 hours long or something crazy like that

If anyone was wondering, this is from May 10, 1980 at the University of Montreal.
