Factoid is a Max For Live device that allows you to create endless rhythmical variations of audio clips. It uses machine learning to decompose a sound into a set of layers that are randomly shifted in time to change the temporal structure of the clip. Create new drum patterns on-the-fly, turn melodies into textures, randomize full mixes and experiment with any kind of sound!

J.J. you are a mad scientist of the most brilliant sort. Not only are this and the Factorsynth brilliant in concept and execution, but you also have a flare for UI design, which is a rarity in developers of such a high calibur. I'll be picking this up soon, and I look forward to anything else you have on the way. I only wish you taught Max courses (I guess I'll just have to take a peek inside the devices myself, though).

    Oooooh shiiet, this looks amazing
  • @Ferrichrome
great music! and fantastic device of course!
  • I'd be killer having this not taking so much of the transients of the sound, it seems that it takes away the punch at the very beginning of the transient, most noticeable at the percussive elements.
  • @ItsWesSmithYo
ranking high on my list of M4L mangler devices....tx

It would be nice if that could work with live audio input! If you can, please do that. Thanks!
  • @kozihoppy
This looks tasty! My only concern would be how's the CPU hit on this device since it uses multiple instances of the same audio to render it's layers.
  • It seems that you didn't go further with the transients treatment that I consider an "issue". Sad because I'd like to buy this but it stops me in my willingness :)

that's super impressive. are 'randomize' and 'reset' buttons mappable?
  • I am a Factorsynth user and looking at this short demo, I feel that it suffers from the same "transients killing" disease as Factorsynth do. For this reason, I think these tools are more efficient for sound design than for music production.
