John is re-joined by pre-eminent historian Niall Ferguson to analyse the latest conflict between Israel and Hamas. Ferguson argues that due to the nature of Hamas’ urban warfare, tunnel systems and civilian shields, Israel will have a long and difficult campaign ahead. He also points out that the decline in Western support for Israel, particularly in the younger generations, is due to a woke university system propagating Islamist and left-wing viewpoints, attempting to create a moral equivalence between the October 7 terrorist attacks and Israel’s response.

Niall Ferguson, MA, D.Phil., is the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution, Stanford University, and a senior fellow of the Centre for European Studies, Harvard, where he served for twelve years as the Laurence A. Tisch Professor of History.

He is the author of fifteen books, most recently Doom: The Politics of Catastrophe. His previous book, Kissinger, 1923-1968: The Idealist, won the Council on Foreign Relations Arthur Ross Prize. He is also an award-winning filmmaker, having won an international Emmy for his PBS series The Ascent of Money.

Assimilation has been a huge issue. In the west your a racist if you expect people to speak the common tongue and you can’t question their culture or religion even if it goes directly against western values. But no when you go Islamic culture, you must observe and respect their culture and practices to a tee or you potentially face imprisonment. The hypocrisy is just unbelievable.
  • @WilliamKlaesson
We need to get away from the term "radical islam" its just Islam.
  • @mikevasile
I have children who are studying in university and can totally confirm the existence of that generational disconnect which to me came as a shock when seeing their position regarding the conflict in Israel. We’ve got a real problem.

Dr Niall nailed it. You can not have a society which generously accepts large volumes of immigrants without asking of them to uphold the norms of the place they themselves chose for a better life. that’s the least to ask of anyone gaining that much favor. To mention, I’m an immigrant and it churns my stomach when I see immigrants who’ve begged so much to get into one of the western countries, then minutes after haven been granted the chance, it becomes the worst place on earth . Sad!

The notion is that moderate Muslims exist is odd. The moderates are the ones chanting violence but not acting it out. There is no Muslim voice saying that Islam needs to reform and become tolerant.

Lovely conversation. As a 20 year old college student in the US, I’m very disillusioned at my generation. Listening to gentlemen like Mr. Ferguson and Mr. Anderson is a breath of fresh air. I hope and pray my country and my generation begin waking up to the dangers we face today. Let reason and tradition reign!

Once again, a conversation worth listening to from beginning to end. All important topics that allow us to reflect. A great pleasure to have Niall Ferguson. Thank you very much Mr. John Anderson.
  • Outstanding and remarkable work exposing the truth Niall and John! 💯 God bless you! 💯✝️🕊🙏❤️
  • Where were the sociologists’ concerned about the Palestinians before ‘ 7 October? Why are they not concerned about the hostages ? Why does the ceasefire not start with Hamas who started this particular fight. Not just youthful support but many aging hippies who want to relive their youth.

I think the role of social media, particularly Tik Tok, cannot be overstated in terms of dissemination and spread of these radical ideas. It’s a hotbed for misinformation as well.

The generational divide as Niall rightly calls it is easy to explain. Soviet defectors in the 1980s said they were focusing their efforts on taking over our schools and universities as indoctrination centres, as clearly they have done. A KGB defector said; 'Within 2 generations, we'll have taken over". The clip is on youtube somewhere.

What an incredible conversation. Thank you for some sanity, hard truths and compassion.

Peter Hitchens, Douglas Murray, now Niall. Johns on fire!
  • @Gorbyrev
What a privilege to listen to two great men in conversation. Thank God for the persistent quest for wisdom in our time.
  • @hollosaroka
Excellent conversation. Thinkers like Niall Ferguson offer hope that sanity may return to the West in my lifetime.
  • I have two close Muslim friends in England : one is a Biological scientist who believes in natural selection , the other a religious sceptic. I asked them both if they discuss these things with fellow Muslims. They both laughed. Those we would most like to empower are small in number and fearful.
  • @onthemove301
Excellent analysis, but where is the coordinated action to repel Islamism? The UK Home Secretary, who has been the only political voice to speak out against it, has just been sacked by a Prime Minister who is but a temporary resident of the UK.
  • @johnjones6601
If the residents of Gaza would "dearly love to get rid of Hamas", then where are the resistance movements to it? There are none and there won't be any. The idea that there's a sizable section of the Palestinian population who want a free and democratic State of their own, side by side with Israel is laughable. If they have issues with Hamas, it's to do with means, not ends. Whatever their stripe, they all agree that Israel should not exist.
  • Mr. Anderson, I've only recently discovered your channel, and must say that it doesn't disappoint at all. Thank you for hosting so many amazing minds, and sharing them with the rest of us.

Spent time in Birmingham UK in the early 2000's. My thoughts were what is England doing to itself. Mind blower.
