Considering that Autobots were originally designed, by Primus, to be primarily scholars, medical workers, and generally fill more "aristocrat" type roles, while the bots that would become Decepticons were primarily manual labor, slaves, and gladiators, it makes sense that Megatron and the Decepticons would initially wipe the floor with The Primes and the Autobots.

I like also how it’s kinda poetic that galvatron had a hole in his chest that can destroy things( like optimus’ blades). It’s sort of like his saying “try putting something in my chest now” in reference to tf1

TF1 Megatron: was a threat; beats the crap out of Optimus; and ripped Jazz in half Post-TF1 Megatron: was a side antagonist; gets destroyed by Optimus; had to double team him and still got demolished

I feel like people forgot that when Megatron was revived they used other parts to replace his damaged ones and in TF3 he was weak due to being mortally wounded in TF2. Optimus Prime the entire time got stronger and newer weapons. It’s not Michael Bay and plot holes, it’s us not paying attention.

Prime also was holding back because he wasn't sure he could bring himself to kill Megatron. He says "You left me no choice brother" he and Megs were very close so it's pretty in character for him to hold back.

The best Megatron design has to be TF5, he looks so badass and puts the fear back in him

I really enjoyed the movies and appreciate you trying to make sense of Michael Bay’s unexplained character design choices. I’d also add that it’s interesting how in the first movie, Megatron refuses to opt for a human vehicle, due to his pride and sticks with his cybertronian jet. Whereas by the third film, he has been reduced to a shell of his former self, ruling the deceptions from the shadows as a veiled truck in the desert.
