The 747-400 has thee engine choices of improved turbofans: the Pratt & Whitney PW4000, General Electric CF6-80C2 or the Rolls-Royce RB211-524G/H. Its two-crew glass cockpit and was one the first Boeing 747 aircraft without the need for a flight engineer. It typically accommodates 416 passengers in a three-class layout over a 13,940 km (7,285 nmi) range with its 370.000 tones or 875,000 lb Maximum Take Off Weight (MTOW).
Unfortunately the passenger version of the Boeing 747 is becoming more and more rare as is it not as fuel efficient as twin engined aircraft, and costs more in maintenance. Therefore airlines are phasing these wonderful aircraft out of their fleets. The first 747-400 was rolled out on 26 January 1988 and made its maiden flight on 29 april 1988. The Boeing 747-400, with 694 delivered over the course of 20 years from 1989 to 2009, is the best-selling Boeing 747 variant. Its closest competitors were the smaller McDonnell Douglas MD-11 trijet and Airbus A340. It has been superseded by the stretched and improved Boeing 747-8, introduced in October 2011. With its stretched fuselage is by 18 ft (5.6 m) to 250 ft (76.3 m), it was the longest airliner until the 777X-9, first flown in 2020.
