A lineup of glasses joyfully share ideas, growing in scale after each exchange. But the jubilant cycle is halted by a stubborn jar whose head is already filled.

Director’s notes:
"Pour 939" is an animated cartoon that was initially drawn as an exercise in visualizing the close minded, and their role in halting a fulfilling exchange of ideas. This simple metaphor was never supposed to be a stand alone film, but the more time I spent drawing it, the more I thought it could hold it's own water (or wine). Interestingly, this short film has no real story, it's simply an illustration of an idea: The moment when people who freely share thoughts are confronted with a person who is closed up. I chose the number 939 because it felt very stubborn and limited to me.

Technical notes:
This film was drawn in Adobe Animate, using a Wacom Cintiq. There are many excellent programs out there (ie flipaclip, marmoset, or doodle) but I use Adobe Animate mostly because it’s the same as the old Flash, which is really the only one I’m familiar enough with to have a consistent work flow (although I’m currently teaching myself toon boom harmony). Since I’m a traditional animator, and don’t do any type of work for gaming or 3d, I work frame by frame in a 2D manner. My last film that I drew on paper was “Masks” which you can watch here:    • "MASKS" Exploitation leads to extinct...   If you have any specific questions please let me know in the comments, I read all the comments, and always reply to the thoughtful ones.

  • MUCH brighter tone and concept than the previous pours. I love them all, but this one is just so good! Instead of trying to empty out 939's ideas, they just... move on. And that's so simply beautiful!
  • i love how no one forces him or anything. they just let him do his own thing and let him be
  • @Textago
i love how all of them this time is happy and more but 939 is just like: "is this what my life has become"
  • @camdenprime5430
I am glad that instead of just one giant cup filling everyone up. They are sharing! Also, they're so happy! I like it! Edit: Woah, was not expecting to get over 400 likes. Thank you everyone!
  • Truly appreciated how unique you made each of their heads, and I also love how it still had the same style as the old one! Truly a treasure on the internet!
  • @Peppermynt.
insane to think that there’s actual reasoning behind each number used as the odd one out instead of it just being random Also, i imagine this as After the events of the previous 2 pour animations, a new person took over, the entire system was rewrote, allowing greater freedom, and even the odd ones out agree to this, except for those who are stubborn and already have their minds filled

I like how instead of killing him for already having his head full, they just look annoyed and then ignore him, like he's not even a threat to their society he's just a party pooper
  • @popfizz_art4448
I like how they all seem to get happier down the line, probably because every time the “wine” passes through each head, it gets more flavored, like with the cherries or limes people may have on their head. Or symbolically, that could also mean people getting more used to and accepted by having a largely spread ideas.

I absolutely loved that broken record pause, it conveyed so much emotion. Everyone was like "WTF!" and that jar guy gave zero f*cks I half expected he was gonna flip everybody off. 😆👍
  • I wasn't expecting all of them to have different shaped heads....Cool! :D
  • I think the moral of this story is Someone doesnt want to be filled with something. He wants to be alone
  • @Tea_pot612
i see this as people who are impacted by positive people become positive people. 939 has been impacted by negative people so that’s why he’s a darker color and filled all the way up. he is so used to the dark red to the point of closing the lid.
  • @RomanceFreak
A bit of a darker interpretation: 939 has his head already filled with some pretty heavy and dark knowledge/secrets he doesn't want anyone else to know. 938 sharing their knowledge isn't going to change or cleanse the dark liquid from his mind and soul. Screwing the lid on, he is sparing others from the pain of what he knows, keeping their innocence, so the secret dies with him. Others may try to help him, and/or are curious what he is hiding, but they ultimately leave him alone in the end. Some secrets/knowledge/events are best left to die undiscovered and not shared because future generations would be better off without it.

I think that one is my favorite so far in your number serie. Simple and efficient, It's demonstrate perfectly the metaphor of stubborn and close minded peoples, all in a playful manner! Congratulation, and thank you for sharing !
  • @lukefox718
"What do we do do man?" "idk" "K........moving on" credits
  • This might be simple but it has a meaningful perspective of the mindset of each individual It's quite clever using different type of glass That's good one Patrick
  • @hhl1655
I like the message and the animation is still great
  • @redlady120
    A very apt description of a narrow-minded person. Very well-made, friend👍👍
  • More I look at this, the more it feels like a metaphor for depression. 939s head is filled with a “darker” drink. The other glasses notice but he closes his glass(head) and is eventually left behind as the others cant do anything and everything forget that he exists moving on with their lives.
