I agree with Lincoln. That seems like a huge price jump for an extra layer of foam and a fancy lock. Awesome video!

If you need a cooler to keep your beer cold for longer than a day or two, your drinking too slow lol.

I would have been more interested in seeing it compared to a Coleman 5 day cooler, which actually has outperformed the Yeti in some comparison videos. Or even a Coleman 6 day cooler
  • sooo... drill some holes in the cheaper cooler lid.. fill it with spray foam toss some cheap gasket on the seal.. save myself 300 bucks?
  • I took a $1 styrofoam cooler and wrote "YETI" on it with a Sharpie. I always get a lot of encouraging comments at the beach.
  • for $400 it should have a compressor and refrigerant to keep everything cool

I’m a Coleman cooler man myself: have one that’s going on 15 years old and been tossed in the boat hundreds of times, bounced around in the truck bed etc and still going strong.

The obvious test is to determine how long each will keep the inside to 40 deg F. Then, you decide which is more economical for your use. I suggest the most cost efficient solution is have a smaller cooler inside a larger cooler. Insert additional foam insulation between the two. Now, you have more than double the insulation which will keep your inside temperature to 40 deg F much much longer.

It's only worth $400.00 because people are willing to spend the $400.00.
  • I have used both coolers for long periods of time and looked up compare videos where they use the yeti and cheap coolers to see how long they hold ice. Yetti always comes in the top 5 of best coolers. however paying $400 is $200 cooler and $200 brand name. is it worth it??? depends on how much you'll use it.

It always depends on what you are using a cooler for. With me, I got a cooler because we have had power outages that have lasted 10 days and an expensive cooler is already paid for the first time you don't have to throw out all of the food in the fridge. I also wanted it for long car trips. I have driven cross country 5 times and being able to really trust that the food will still be good at the end of a week is important. Also for longer camping trips. That versus people who just bought a cooler for drives to the beach. When I was younger, I always bought the cheap ones. But I have ended up buying multiple cheap ones and losing multiple refrigerator loads of food and at my age, I look back and would say to myself, "Get a good cooler the first time" It doesn't have to be a Yeti, but one that will hold ice for 10 days.

I had to just bypass these coolers and purchased a ARB fridge way back in 2011, I still use it almost daily and it's works like a champ. and can you just imagine the cost of years of ice everyday.

I paid $3 for a 7-11 styrofoam cooler, works just fine. keep it in my car/truck, bears haven't got into it yet.

Extra $10 on materials. The rest is design and marketing value.

wow I love this video guys!! it looks like the difference is really in the plastic strength (which I don't need) and the extra insulation in the lid, which I DO need... so I can customize a small piece of foam insulation :) THANKS GUYS!!
