Xiaomi just released their long-awaited 3rd generation Smart Home Gateway / Hub with Apple Home support. -But is it a real improvement? Let's find out!
Find the Xiaomi Gateway here on AliExpress: bit.ly/XMF_AE_XG3

This new model of the Xiaomi HUB comes with Zigbee 3.0, it serves as a Bluetooth hub and it has Apple Homekit support. It's only 9 x 2.5 cm in size and it gets powered using a Micro-USB cable.

It differs a lot from the previous generations of the Smart Gateway in the sense that it does NOT have a built-in speaker, it does NOT have a ring of LED lights and it's not plugged in the wall directly.

This model does function as a Bluetooth gateway which allows you to pair any of the Xiaomi compatible Bluetooth Mesh devices. This by itself is nothing that special as basically all "bigger" Xiaomi products that have been released recently actually have a built-in Bluetooth hub. -So that's not that impressive...

What is more impressive is that it supports Apple Homekit, so you can pair it with the Apple Home APP. -Again this is nothing that new as the Aqara hub also offers this functionality, and that gateway has been out for almost 1.5 years now as well.

In broad terms the Xiaomi Gateway V3 is a trimmed down version of the existing hub that does not have a speaker, it does not have an LED light and most of its core functions are pretty much the same. (If not also trimmed down...)

Needless to say that the Xiaomi Smart Home Gateway V3 does not really feel like a big upgrade to this HUB.

Yes, it has a newer version of Zigbee...
Yes, it functions as a Bluetooth Mesh HUB...
Yes, it offers Apple Homekit support...
But is it really enough to call this the V3?

If you want some of your devices to work with Apple Homekit and/or you need to be able to connect more than the 32 devices you have connected to your existing gateway: you might still want to pick it up.

But personally, I would have loved to see some more exciting improvements in the V3 of what was already a very well functioning hub in the first place.

  • @europlane77
Love your videos... does this hub mean that my xiaomi air purifier pro becomes homekit available?
  • @TamasSzebeni
I'm using the old and new versions of hubs together as they have unique features and can work together just fine. What I need is the ability to add custom sensor/device
  • @ttsvetkov
Hi, love the channel! Do you think this hub will ever be compatible with Google Home?

Nice video! Where can I buy the international version of the v2? I really dont like to use a adapter....
  • @Custompro36610
You could make more videos of this product, how to introduce accessories, with authorization, how to use with Homekit and more more more. Thank you

Very late to this, but looking at a hub since new Xiaomi purchases are relying on Bluetooth mesh instead of wifi. Thanks for the video - HUGELY useful! I have the old Aircon plug control which includes a hub so I'm currently thinking I'll just stick with that if it works. Like you, I'm a big Xiaomi fan and will aim for Xiaomi solutions wherever possible. Honestly, it's good to see you post a negative review of something because it underlines that you are being honest (never in doubt, though!) in your reviews. As an Android user, I'm a bit peeved to see Apple Homekit compatability while it is INCREDIBLY difficult to get Xiaomi things to work with anything other than MiJia over here in China. I understand why, I get it, I accept it. Still peeved!!!

Do Bluetooth devices also appear in HomeKit? For example the Mi Temperature and humidity sensor? This would be a nice improvement/upgrade!
  • Saw this a couple months ago, and was hoping you were going to review it. πŸ‘ Been looking at the V2 for about a year. Was just going to get one with the u.s. adapter, but now with the release of u.s. plug, I think I'm just going to get it now. Thoughts?
  • I think for someone who doesn't own much smart devices and don't own the previous gateway, it's great for the price. Aside from that I think it fantastic as is because I didn't want the led light to begin with and neither the alarm it didn't serve any purpose to me. I'm only connecting the ceiling light, camera and the roborock.

You work is amazing! Great video and review! So which hub do you recommend that works with HomeKit and xiaomi devices?
  • @Dr.ANDyROID
Hi dude, nice video. Can this new hub can be paired with the previous hub. Does all the yet connected sensors etc connect to the new hub automatically or do I have to choose wich sensor is connecting to wich hub? Or can I just add this hub to cover more space in my home because I thinks some sensors loose 'connection' from time to time.

I always wanted to buy this (older) but was expensive with shipping πŸ™„
