Delta du Niger, la guerre du brut

Published 2024-06-18
After having been the hope of an entire people in the 1950s, oil became, half a century later, the worst of their nightmares, generating corruption, kidnappings, civil war. In the Niger Delta, black gold has awakened the fiercest appetites and generated the biggest oil spill of all time. For twenty years, the government army and oil companies have fought hand in hand against the rebels, who are demanding better sharing of resources. Because, in the delta, despite an oil windfall amounting to billions of euros each year, the population still lives on less than two euros per day. This documentary, in the form of a road movie, shows a violent reality: the true price of a few liters of gasoline at the pump.

  • Os brasileiros agradece pela tradução, parabéns pelo trabalho tenho muita admiração 👍
  • Documentaries such as these need to be played on national tv, between the tv drama hours so that normal civilians who don't use Youtube may be able to see such things. So many people in Africa are not aware of these things. I'm from South Africa, and I feel for Nigeria
  • I felt really really sad when Victor started crying. Nigerians are some of the nicest people I've ever met. May they find solutions to these problems.

From the struggle of MEND until the Amnesty during President Yar Adua, I never understood the gravity of this situation till now. May God heal this nation.
  • Todo o continente Áfricano é muito rico, é uma vergonha ver essas lideranças todas ricas com a maioria da população na pobreza

For the record, John Togo was killed by the Joint Task Force of the Nigerian government in 2011 -- the year that the narrator (and his crew) first arrived to make this video. He died from injuries sustained in an air raid. On his orders, his fighters disbanded immediately after his death. He was buried in 2013.
