I was hoping for an actual informative video from a Charger content creator and this was painful to watch. It does nothing to explain the defense Minter employed in Michigan. All that was done were sweeping generalizations and a clear display of not understanding the difference in what a Minter defense actually looked like. The Chargers ran (and may have to run this year due to the roster limitations at IDL, ILB, CB and FS that have yet to be corrected unless players like JT Woods and Ja’Sir Taylor are further along in development than advertised or rookies like Cam Hart can get liabilities like Gilman off the field, Tarheeb Still can get Samuel Jr. off the field and Junior Colson can actually start keeping Perryman nowhere near the field) a base 3-4 hybrid sometimes running a light nickel. They had to live in soft cover 4 and 2 because of the complete and historic lack of speed in the secondary. Even with 15 and 20 yard drops, they were shredded by WRs and TEs with merely average NFL speed. When forced to play man, it was still soft man coverage and disastrous if the rush did not get pressure in under 2 seconds. Base rush or blitz did not matter. See the second Raiders game if you need reference. Minter did not run a 3-4 base in Michigan. He ran what college ball calls a 4-2-5 and the NFL calls a Heavy Nickel. The Ravens do not run that scheme as they run the same hybrid 3-4 base as Brandon Staley, but with starting caliber players and better communication. The good news is that Minter called only about 28% of Cover 2 and 4 combined and rolled the dice with Cover 3 and 6 more often in an aggressive attacking style. He mixed in some base bump man sometimes disguised as off man morphing pre snap. The Ravens play much closer to the Chargers old Time Square Defense in the mid 2000s. In fact had you researched further you would have seen that McDonald’s defense conceptually shares roots with Wade Phillips concepts. It is so disappointing seeing Charger content creators that are closer to the casual fans that make up their audience than they are to even fans with average NFL and Football knowledge. I had such high hopes for this video, but there is a more informative video about Minter’s defense available by actual Football media professionals from the Chargers themselves. This is just a guy talking around a topic. This does nothing to explain the Minter defense, just the same empty excitement and enthusiasm these same guys showed for Tom Telesco as he destroyed the roster and every new Coordinator hire or FA signing that didn’t work out.

I think signing extra pass rush means they will rotate players more frequently. Keep them fresh for the 4th quarters, as well as depth in case of injuries.. a player that's gassed is more likely to strain a muscle, hammy, groin, etc. also, IF chargers can run the ball, longer drives, more rest for defense, fresher in 4th quarter to finish out games.
  • Minter's Defense in 2024 DL Fox Ford Ogbonnia Matlock Eboigie Edge Bosa Mack Tuipulotu Dupree LB Colston Henley Perryman Niemann CB Samuel Jr Fulton Leonard Hart Still S James Jr Gilman ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
  • Director always did have a way of explaining things so I could understand them...
  • I was ok with bud Dupree because I knew we were going to rotate a lot of guys making sure Bosa stays healthy and well rested for 4th quarter defense

This defense will be fun to watch. If adding pressure more means more additional FA to come over? Sounds exciting
  • @ScottEmmert1980
I cant wait to see the new intro you construct! Much Love Director!!!
  • @sproles88
My favorite picks of the draft were Colson and mcconkey because of the value we got them for
  • @sernafamily275
Brace yourselves. It’s going to be a cold one, Minter is coming
  • Can you do a show on the 21 undrafted players that we signed, it looks like we have some great talent there
  • @smeagshotya1506
Man I can’t wait to see all of this come to life ⚡️⚡️
  • @Lzo7639
We said that about Staley. “The Sean Mcvay version of the defense”
  • @chrisjrodrig
So this idea of having so much versatility is great but, is this not what Staley was trying to do? He attempted to have so many moving players to where they were all over the place in the wrong way? Please do not get me wrong, I am a huge fan and am excited about this new staff and I am confident this team is going to be way different. Love the work that you do and am always looking forward for the next video.
  • @jeffbounds7025
Great freaken video! Well done. If anything, the rotation of fresh edge players will be nuts!
  • @Alex-ye1br
Dare I say we might be seeing the birth of a new "JUNIOR" 👀 that we've been missing in the LB position since...Cooper? Edwards? Jr?
  • So glad we have a DC that knows how to use the pieces- especially the linebackers.
