Somehow, the 80s were even more 80s in Japan. Well done.

    - How much 80s vibe do you want in your anime sir? - YES

In 5 minutes, we are introduced to the characters, the plot, the setting, and the music.

I fully thought this was a joke song in Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, not an incredibly deep cut to a classic anime.

My economics professor sent this link to our entire class. This dude is cool.
  • An anime from the 80’s about a future where rock music went underground, a corporation controls the world, and boomers are a serious problem. Prophetic!
  • I love that Priss and the Replicants is a direct reference to Blade Runner
  • @reminess
and here I am, 34 years later still bopping along to this.

I prefer this artstyle to the great majority of today's anime.

That is the most beautifully animated sequence of a girl putting on a miniskirt I have ever seen.

The “I knew this song before Scott Pilgrim takes off” button

They said it couldn't be done -- ripping off Streets of Fire, Blade Runner, Aliens and Terminator all at the same time -- and then there was Bubblegum Crisis.

OMG The Clash At Demon Head scene is inspired by this, and then they put the song in the Scott's anime. AWESOMEEE

One of the biggest things I miss about '80s anime is the depth. In 5 minutes your immersed in a world where you completely understand the tone and the vibe, which it seems alien yet somehow familiar. Art in its most visceral form.

80s and 90s anime illustration outdoes everything today.
  • There is a reason Anime got so popular. And it was because of series like this. The 90's anime was amazing and the bubblegum crisis was one of my favs. I loved the music too.
