Scottish Borders Woodpecker gets angry with some leaves!

This female Lesser Spotted Woodpecker has been a regular in our garden for the past couple of years. Woodpeckers are generally very shy birds and fly off quickly when disturbed. This one because we feed them year round has gradually got accustomed to seeing me put feed out and doesn't fly away as long as I keep my distance.
To keep her in one place long enough for filming I drilled some holes in a couple of old branches and anchored them to a tree and filled the holes with peanuts. This let me film her in a more natural setting. This went well and she was eagerly tearing into the nuts. However as you will see some leaves got in the way of a hole that contained nuts and they were ruffling her red cap feathers.

  • A fantastic video David. Have seen and captured a few in in the forests and cemeteries of Berlin, a while back though. Those were much more shy, too.
